Nesme

A ruined gem

Nesme sits along the River Surbrin, and at its height was a bustling trade town of some 6000 permanent residents and nearly 3000 more seasonal residents during peak trading. The population had declined over the past years, with only 2000 residents by 1372 DR. Then, in 1484 DR, the city was taken by orcs from the Many-Arrows Tribe, aided by the Drow. The ensuing War of the Silver Marches culminated in Nesme with a massive battle which damaged many of the structures within the walls. In 1485 DR, the ruined town of Nesme was abandoned entirely.

Zhents in Nesme

In 1490 DR, the Muffin Men passed through Nesme on their way from Yartar to Mithral Hall. They discovered a group of Zhentarim in the city, and ambushed the outriders stationed along the approach from the south. After taking 2 prisoners, Borgan Tometiller sneaked into the ruins and approached the Zhentarim  captain as he met with a Fire Giant. While Borgan Tometiller did not dare to get any closer to hear more of the conversation, he cannily chose to wait for the Fire Giant and their Hobgoblin infantry to leave. It was then that he was able to overhear a conversation between Kella Darkhope and the Zhentarim captain. Borgan Tometiller learned the Zhentarim were in the employ of a fire giant duke by the name of Zalto . He took this information back to his party, who in turn shared the intelligence with Queen Dagnabbet Waybeard upon their arrival at Mithral Hall.
