A12 - Mutiny on the Iceflow
1496.SU.51 With the knowledge that the party would not be able to assault the Talos Hideout from the air with the airship, they decided to arrange through Valdi Estapaar to meet some local Captains which could transport them to the Thunder cliff cave. The party met with two Captains, Stands in Tar a drunken reckless tabaxi and Kristoffen an overly cautious white dragonborn. After a brief interview process the party chose Kristoffen and set sail on the large vessel called the Ice Flow. Whilst waking about the ship and speaking with the crew they learnt that many were not happy. The overly cautious nature of the Captain had turned down some lucrative contracts recently. One such potential contract was supply food, grains and mundane items to the north Ice wind dale. The region was cut off from most of the sword coast and a recent harsh winter had meant there was a lot of demand. Their ship was even designed to break the ice in the area. Feeling the tension mounting and crew members becoming more vocal, eventually Caisha the 2nd in command stood up to the Captain and insisted that he step down and be cast off from the ship. Only a few crew rallied to the Captains side and it appeared the journey was in jeopardy as the crew mutinied. Mordia managed to avoid the almost disastrous encounter by booming out STOP using his spells. This caught enough of the sailors off guard and gave the group the opportunity to talk the situation through without and blood shed. After Catisha had shown her hand she could not stay on the ship decided to leave on a rowing boat with a small group of sailors. The rest of the crew continued uneasily and the remainder of the day sailing was quiet. At midday on the second day of the journey another ship was sighted and after a brief communication it drew along side the Ice Flow. The Captain Starling Winchet of the uneasy Alliance docked with the Ice floe and shared stories of journeys, thunder cliffs and the fact she had only just escaped a ghost ship the night before. She described the ghostly wraith chasing after the ship, their glowing green forms hovering above the waves. Many of the crew looked fearful, but Kristoffen decided to hold a banquette for the crew of both ships. After a hearty meal the captains bid farewell and weighed anchor, continuing on the journey. However, sure enough within a day the Ice Flow was beset by a ghost ship and wraiths. Out of a thick fog cloud the glowing ghost ship appeared with the howling wraiths darting towards the Ice flow. With the warning from Captain Starling the party had decided to carry out a rotation on watch in case of an attack. Captain Albert seeing the glowing lights emerging rang the bell and called all the crew to their stations. The crew fought for their lives as the wraiths passed through the hull and into the crew quarters. Their mundane weapons barely damaging the spectral enemies. On the deck a huge shadow creature burst from the Captains quarters killing many crew. The adventurers who had been on the deck fought off the wraiths and shadow saving Kristoffen for a second time. Jack the new Captains second in command rallied the men and fought their way from the hull. With the wraiths vanquished or retreating and the ghost ship disappearing back into the fog the crew settle down into a difficult task of clearing the dead and continuing their journey to the Thunder Cliffs.
