RoT 18: "Back to Waterdeep"

The Green Wyrmspeaker, Neronvain, has been captured and his Green Dragon, Chuth, killed. The elves they enslaved have been freed and the threat to Misty Forest has been eliminated. Now you just need to make your way out of the forest and to the Brass Wain to retrieve your mounts and from there head back to Waterdeep.


It's been a long few weeks; you've flown from Waterdeep to the Nether Mountains and returned on the back of an Ancient Sliver Dragon and met with other Ancient Metallic Dragons to enlist their aid in the fight against the Cult of the Dragon and their nefarious plot to raise Tiamat from the Nine Hells.

 

You've travelled to the Misty Forest where you fought and captured another Wyrmspeaker and defeated his green dragon ally.

 

And now you've arrived back at The Brass Wain , just south of Daggerford to retrieve your mounts and head back to Waterdeep, no doubt to once again report to the Council of Waterdeep regarding your meeting with the Council of Dragons (including your promised concessions) and turn over Neronvain to them for questioning (and have to break the bad news to King Melandrach that his long lost son is a cultist and a traitor).

 

The Brass Wain appears less busy than usual probably due to the reduced number of convoys with all the raids lately. But the taproom seems to still be pretty lively with patrons.

 

You enter the front door where you see your friend, and the inn's proprietor Arthur. "Hello and welcome to the Brass Wain." He says. Feel free to have a seat and I'll be with you shortly."

 

You are all immediately suspicious as Arthur normally addresses you with excitement and joy over seeing you again. When you attempt to sit at your normal table, Arthur exclaims "NOT THERE! I'm sorry but that table is reserved permanently for The Iron Company. Please have a seat anywhere else though."

 

That is clue enough; you know Arthur is trying to warn you of something but before you can attempt to go back out to find the would be assassins, they decide to make themselves known by entering the front door with bravado. “Iron Company! We might not have recognized you were you not carrying around a captive Wyrmspeaker. Now we not only have to kill you but rescue him as well.”

 

At that there is a loud crash as the front of building, including part of the roof is ripped open by an adult black dragon and the Cultists attack, starting with any innocent bystanders standing between them and you all.

 

As if a pair of cultists and a dragon weren’t enough, you soon find that they’ve somehow enlisted the aid of demons, a Mezzoloth and a Nycaloth to be exact. The Nycaloth teleports directly next to Pubert and engages him in combat while the Mezzoloth teleports next to Neronvain and starts trying to untie his bonds.

 

As the battle rages, Arthur and most of the civilians manage to escape into the kitchens and presumably out the back door, although a few are killed by the cultists and the dragon’s acid breath.

 

This time it’s clear the Cult means business; their last attempt to assassinate your band went poorly for them. This time though, even though you ultimately defeat them, you are all battered beyond what you’ve ever been before and the Nycaloth escaped.

 

Not to mention, The Brass Wain is in shambles.
