RoT 4: “Why’d It Have To Be Snakes!?” – 2020-05-15

Expedition

2020-05-15

You've tracked Varram and his entourage for two and a half days into the Serpant Hills before finally coming upon the Tomb of Diderius. Nothing like a good old fashioned dungeon crawl while trying to bring a Wyrmspeaker to justice, eh?

The words of Diderius’ spirit still echoing, the stone slab that was hiding the secret door on the north wall of the crypt begins to open revealing caverns made of worked green stone. It is noticeably warmer here than the rest of the crypt.

On the other side you are met by a group of Lizardfolk, one of whom immediately runs away, presumably to get help. You dispatch the remaining Lizardfolk guards fairly quickly then start to pursue the one that went for help, as well as one that ran away as it was very injured.

You go down a set of stairs to discover a bridge over a deep pit. The bridge is covered in moss, made treacherously slick due to the moisture dripping from the 10-foot high ceilings. On the other side of the bridge are six more Lizardfolk backed up by a pair of Yuan-Ti Malisons.

Brehana Warpip blasts the Lizardfolk and Yuan-Ti with a fireball from her Staff of Fire nearly decimating the Lizardfolk. Pubert Adams , despite the treacherous terrain, charges across the bridge, the unsure footing causing him to nearly drop Hazirawn into the pit below as he struggles to find his balance. The Yuan-Ti attempt to use suggestion to get Pubert to attack Rikon Oakenhelm instead, but the remaining Lizardfolk strike him causing the spell’s effect to break. Malice Bloodmoon and Rikon provide ranged support with spells and crossbow respectively, until finally Brehana again uses the Staff of Fire to cast Wall of Fire which finishes off the Lizardfolk and pits the Yuan-Ti in grave danger. Despite the flames, Pubert charges ahead cutting down a Yuan-Ti.

The last Yuan-Ti is left to choose to flee thus giving Pubert a free swing at his back, or brave the flames and stand his ground. He chooses the latter but pays the ultimate price for doing so.

The rest of the group crosses over the bridge safely with Pubert’s assistance, and a rope. Once on the other side of the bridge you take a moment for healing spells to be cast and catch your breath but this is no time nor place to take a proper rest so on you go.

You find a hallway that seemingly undulates and slithers like a snake. While causing no ill effects it is still rather off putting. From that hallway you locate two other small passages and an empty room where you plan to take a rest as you can fortify it Malice’s Tiny Hut spell. Before you do, however, you choose to go just a bit further down the hall where you find a large chamber 20’ below where the walls drip with slime and the floor literally writhes with Yuan-Ti young watched over by a Yuan-Ti Abomination and three Yuan-Ti Purebloods…
