Diplomatic action
Having returned from the abandoned farm where the Cult tried to set a trap for you by kidnapping your chamberlain, Chauncey you finally get to spend a bit of time resting and taking care of personal errands before the fourth Council of Waterdeep convenes. Part of that personal business is Chauncey himself, who approaches you about your plans for Xonthal’s Tower. He expresses his interest in remaining in your employ after all this business with the Cult of the Dragon is complete and you leave Waterdeep. You of course accept as you already had plans to pilfer him from Piergieron’s Palace to work for you anyway.
Finally, the Council of Waterdeep convenes amid reports of Dragon attacks all over the Sword Coast. They’ve even been so bold as to attack Luskan, Neverwinter, and Baldur’s Gate. Attacks on Waterdeep have been attempted but thwarted before they could get too close to the city. As you enter the council chambers, you note that the ambassador from Thay is absent. There is already heated discussion about Thay having been contacted in the first place with the council quite clearly divided over the matter to the point that Lady Silverhand explains that the decision was to not make Thay’s representative an official member of the Council.
In addition, Rian Nightshade of The Zhentarim loudly expresses that her offer to buy Xonthal’s Tower still stands – a topic you were not fully prepared to discuss just yet but she forces your hand and you express your intention to keep it for your own use rather than handing it over to Council of Waterdeep, The Lords' Alliance , or any other faction in the Sword Coast. That matter is thankfully tabled as there are larger concerns to discuss.
The Blue Dragon Mask you captured from the Cultists occupying the Tower turns out to be a fake. The fate of the Dragon Masks is assumed to be that they are all in possession of Severin and the Cult at the Well of Dragons. Despite that bad news, it is announced Delaan Winterhound of the Emerald Enclave that the location of the Well of Dragons has been found. It is located in the northern part of the Sunset Mountains. This matches up with the reports of the dragon attackers flying off to the east or southeast after their attacks.
Many resources have already been sent in that direction by all the member factions that have pledged aid. All that is left is for you to gear up and join them as soon as possible. You are given leave, and credentials, to charge whatever you need to the Council of Waterdeep (the council believing of course that recovery of whatever treasures the Cult has stockpiled will more than cover costs). After a day or so of locating various items you feel will aid you in this final push to rid Faerûn of the Cult of the Dragon and the threat of Tiamat being released from the Nine Hells.
Not only have you geared up, but an old friend has returned offering to rejoin the fight. Rargir Stetsk, the Life Cleric of Lliira, having spent time at the Temple for a time feels he’s ready to contribute again having gotten whatever spiritual needs met. He’s also heard the rumors and news of all that’s transpired and feels he can no longer sit back and watch.
And with that, you climb into the now familiar balloon baskets and the Gold Dragon brothers, Reitenuber and Aufzuguber pick them up and take flight for the 1000 mile journey. While you can easily spot dragon patrols of both metallic and chromatic dragons in the skies, the Ubers manage to fly practically in stealth mode, dipping or soaring below and above cloud cover as need or strafing the ground to stay under tree cover. Alas as you get closer to the Well it becomes impossible to avoid them all and you are eventually forced to land and face off against a young black dragon and a young white dragon patrolling the outskirts of the area around the Sunset Mountains.
Of course, you are the Iron Company and accompanied by a pair of young gold dragons so the pair of chromatics are quickly dealt with.
