Fae
Fae are a species exclusive to the The Fantasme. Also known as Fairies, they along side Beastcia are the original descendants of Proto-fae. Elves are descended from them.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Fae belong to the Homo genus and evolved along side humans, thus the two species are very similar anatomically. They are recognized by their colorful appearance and flight capabilities. Fairies have an incredibly diverse range of color palettes. Hair, eyes and skin can be a variety of hues and tones, from blues, greens, violets, reds, etc.
Fae are also known for their large, insect like wings, which grant them the ability to fly in the air. These wings are collapsible and can lay down against the back and be concealed by clothing. If torn or ripped, these wings can grow back over time. The wings are sensitive to touch and it's considered rude to touch or pull on them with out consent.
The most common traits for Fae are their pointed ears. Their ears are pointed at the top and can range in length depending on genetics, from a small point to up to 6 inches in length. Fae can also move these ears around independently, and they will often move and twitch in response to sounds and facial expressions.
Fairies have quite fragile bodies. They aren't very strong physically and tend to not develop much muscular definition, as they need smaller bodies that weight less so they can take flight. Because of their very controlled genetics they are also easy targets for foreign diseases that other races have built an immunity to.
Lastly all fairies are born with the ability to shrink their bodies down into a smaller size, to about 3 inches tall. This is called the Pixie state, and allows fairies to live in much smaller homes and take up less space. In Pixie form, fairies proportions will shift to be more 'chibi-like' and their bodies will shine brightly. A cluster of pixies are often mistaken for fireflies or wisps. Their voices may also sound more high pitched in this form as well.

Genetics and Reproduction
Faries can interbreed with other species like humans, though many of their traits tend to not carry over in mixed children, resulting what is known today as the elven race. A pure fairy with all the appropriate genes can only occur if a fairy reproduces with another fairy. Because of this, their numbers are small compared to elves.
Fairies reproduce the same way humans and elves do, however the women cannot fly or shrink into pixie form while pregnant. This becomes a problem as fairy homes tend to be made at the scale of the pixie forms, so instead there is typically always human scale buildings known as 'Maternity Cabins' where an expecting mother and her significant other can live during her pregnancy,
Growth Rate & Stages
When fairies are born they have a set of premature wings start off very small compared to their body size and they are unable to fly. They are also unable to use pixie form on their own, so a parent has to cast it for them. As the infant ages the wings will grow into an appropriate size for them.
At around 5 years old, a fairy can now change sizes on their own, but also can learn how to fly. Just like learning to talk, learning to fly is a gradual process for the child and parents will usually take it slow, starting with trees and ledges before moving to flying across islands.
When a Fairy reaches puberty, their premature set of wings will shed and in their place a larger, more intricate and elegant set of wings will grow in their place. These are the adult wings that the fairy will have for the rest of their lives, so long as they don't get severely damaged.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Fairies are very sensitive to Magic and Mana, often capable of sensing and using it from as young as 1 or 2 years old. But as such, they are much more susceptible to Mana Poisoning and Exhaustion..
Civilization and Culture
Beauty Ideals
Fairies love color and find brightly colored hair and skin to be attractive. Fairies prefer those whose hair, eye and skin color matches, as opposed to those with a mismatch of colors. The particularly find neutral colors like peaches, browns or beiges to boring and ugly, thus they find humans to be pretty unattractive. They also consider other fae races with human skin tones to be flawed.
Fairies also find humans and other elves' lack of wings to be odd looking.
Common Etiquette Rules
Since many fairies only live outside of the forest when working for a royal family, most fairies are very polite and dignified. Manners are an important lesson young fairies are taught. Even a moderately easy going fairy can be seen as rude and irresponsible in their prudish society.
Common Dress Code
Most of their clothing is made made out cloth cut to resemble flowers or plants. The use of feathers is also common with their fashion. Since most fairies can fly, many choose not to where shoes.
Almost all of their clothing is designed with an open back to give space for their wings. They wear capes when traveling on foot to hide their wings and protect their back from the cold.
Culture and Cultural Heritage
Fairies are very prideful on their 'pure' status, to the point of arrogance. However to keep it this way, they tend to be pretty xenophobic. Fairies tend to live in secluded villages in the forest, and not allow in strangers. Being allowed entry into a fairy village is a huge sign of trust and respect.
Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals
One the first full moon of spring, Fairies have an annual tradition known as the Full Moon's Flight. On this night, fairies from various villages will fly high into one location, find a partner and dance under the light of the full moon. This is considered a romantic holiday, and many believe that there is a chance you will meet your soul mate during it.
The other holiday takes place on a harvest moon. In the afternoon for a short time, fairies will open up their village to the public as they host the Harvest Festival. The festival involves food markets, games, singing, and a bon fire.
While this it is not a holiday, one tradition is the First Flight. This is when a young fairy becomes old enough to start flying on their own, which usually happens at age 5 or 6. They an a parent will usually travel to the closest island gap, and the child will be tasked with flying from one cliff to the other on their own. The parent usually flies somewhere below them, in order to catch them in case they fall.
When a Fairy turns 15 they are given a body tattoo to represent their magic, this usually consists of swirling patterns all over their arms, legs and face. It's a painful process that can take most of the day, but it's considered an important part of becoming an adult.
Funeral Customs
Fairies will usually carry the dead to a secluded part of the forest. They will dig a small rut into the ground, and place the body inside, then genlty cover it with leaves and other forest debris, so they may decay and return to nature. They will carefully place stones in a circle around the body, so that travelers will know it's a burial sight. A flower in the same hue as the fallen will be placed on top of the burial site, and the friends and family will have a moment of prayer.Common Taboos
Typically, due to their pure nature, if a fairy chooses to marry or have a child with a different race, their family is not allowed to live with them in the village, which usually leads to that fairy having to leave the village forever. In general romantic relationships with other races are frowned upon, as it's seen as a threat to their population.
Disrespecting the Giant Sky Oaks by damaging them in anyway is also a quick way to get a bunch of fairies angry at you, as they a sacred to them.
