Power-bomb Potions

The Wizard's Drug

Power-bomb potions, or just Power-bombs, are potions often stored in small vials and sold illegally on the black market that can grant the user temporary magic powers.

Effects

The potions are made from very powerful, concentrated magic. They are not meant to be drank like traditional potions, instead to get the proper effects it much be quickly inhaled as a vapor. The potion grants the user temporary access to powerful magic abilities, which can differ depending on the 'flavor' of potion selected. It also gives the user a euphoric high and a burst of energy.   The effects of the potion only last for a few minutes, but in that time, the user can cast powerful, destructive spells regardless of their prior experience with magic. However with such power tends to come nasty side effects, especially for those whose bodies and minds aren't trained to used magic.   The effects can all depend on the magic that was channeled, for example; Fire Magic can leave behind burnt flesh or a painful stinging sensation in the nose and throat. Illusion magic can cause hallucinations for several hours. Transformation magic can cause painful convulsions or parts getting 'stuck' in a transformed state. Almost all negative reactions can result in headaches, dizziness, lethargy, coughing fits and even fainting. Overuse of the potions can also cause severe brain damage over time, or cause permanent mutations to the head and face. This is a problem as it's easy to become addicted.   It should be noted that the potions are technically poisonous if consumed and doing so will result in a painful death, or worse.

" Out of desperation, one of the bandits pulled a small vial from his scarf and uncorked it. He held it up to his face and inhaled deeply, and as he did so, thick frost crystallized on his face and his eyes began to glow a bright pale blue. The bandit breathed cold mist as if standing out in a snow storm and suddenly he started throwing ice spears conjured from his hand in my direction.   I managed to dodge most of them, but was struck in the shoulder and leg. Before the bandit could attack again, he started coughing up snow and ice violently, and the skin on his face and hands froze solid. I got to my feet as the man collapsed to the ground. He was still alive, but barely." Tales from the Black Market

Uses

The potions are quite popular, especially among those who enjoy the rush of having tremendous power that they wouldn't have normally. Commonly, it's humans who use these potions, as many of them find it difficult to learn and understand magic. In a world where magic guarantees you success, the idea is understandably tempting.   However, humans are also the most likely to hurt themselves using these potions as their bodies are often ill prepared to handle a huge intake of mana and power. Local clinics see countless cases of Magic Poisoning from this drug and even more deaths from it.

Crafting

The power-bombs can be made just like any potion through alchemy. They are created from a high concentration of chemicals and mana that would normally be deadly in potions designed for direct consumption.   It's recommended that one where a mask to protect their nose and mouth when preparing one, as the vapors from cooking are enough to trigger a mild reaction, and to be sure a tight lid is kept on it when not being worked with to prevent the room from filling with vapor.   Strong, potent smells are also added to the potions to make the experience more pleasant, and usually is themed around the magic it provides. For example, an ice power-bomb may smell intensely peppermint.   It is technically illegal to sell these potions as they are classified as harmful drugs, but they are easy to find in black markets.
