Excerpts from the Book
Look Alike Potion
"Transformation magic is difficult to master, and no one has time for that, but this little mix allows you to become anyone for a day... appearance wise.
All you need is a couple of rare Mirage Flowers from the Lilihum Islands a pinch of salt and of course... the hair of the person you want to become. The most optimal source is clipped straight from their head.
I wouldn't recommend going around digging hair out of used brushes, if there is any contaminated hair in your mix, the results will be imperfect. I made the mistake once, accidentally got some cat hair in it."
Ice Breath Potion
"Ice breath is my favorite potion for the battle mage. A potion that lets you release a torrent of blizzard spells. I get a surprising number of non-magic using buying these just to cool themselves off on a hot day too. To each their own I supposed. Peppermint, ice wraith teeth, snow dragon scales and just a touch of sugar is my go to for these.
Sometimes I'll throw in extra mint and some shaved ice just to give it that perfect chill when being drank."
Healing Potions
"Everyone knows a little alovera, dried sun beetles and light magic can makes a basic healing potion, but now one wants a basic healing potion. The solider bleeding to death on the infirmary table doesn't want a basic healing potion. There's so many ingredients you can experiment with, Radient slug Slume, Weeping Orchid Extract, Mimikiwi. YES mimikiwi can work if you purify it.
My secret ingredient is a little on the dangerous side, but the natural healing properties of dragon spit works wonders in healing potions."
Poison
"Let's be real here. Anything can be poison. You don't need to be an alchemist to make poison, but poison potions can be so much more. Get creative with them. For example some ground viper teeth and Fire Root can make a poison that literally makes the victim explode like a fire work."
Singing Potion
"Here's a silly one for the prankster or the aspiring bard, the singing potion will give you the voice of a an angel, instantly, even if it does mean you can only sing for a few hours.
It's easy to make too. Chime Weed is the primary ingredient, you can find that all over Fanentous in the spring and summer. You'll also need some feathers from a few different species of song birds. Don't use any from the birds that make obnoxious squawking unless you want to sound like a dying mule."
Common Mistakes of the Novice Potion Crafter
Not Straining the Potions - Listen, you've got to make sure when you are straining, you get ALL of the solids out. No one wants to drink a nasty chunky soup with twigs and pig teeth still floating around in it.
Adding Too Much Magic - Some people tend to channel way too much mana into the potion while stirring. Try not to get carried away, or you'll end up with potions that are way to intense for people and can lead to Mana Poisoning.
Adding Too Little Magic - On the other hand, some people don't go hard enough, and you end up with these weak little potions that are barely effective at all. At that point you might as well be drinking the 'mud soup' you little niece made outside.
All Natural Potions - I don't care what those 'naturalist' alchemists try to tell you, drinking potions straight from the pot is nasty. They will always taste horrendous. Surprise surprise, adding some damn strawberry flavor will not 'ruin' the effectiveness of your potion at all.
Test Taster - Never be the test subject of your own potions. That's asking just asking to die or turn into a horrible monster. A potion done incorrectly can have devastating effects on your mind and body. Be smart and test it on rodents first. Mutated rats die in a mousetrap all the same.
Not Knowing You Ingredients - Always make sure you know what you're putting into your potions and how the ingredients interact on a chemical level. What starts off as a love potion my turn your sweet heart into a monster... or set her on fire.
