Country: Greza

The continental portion of Greza holds a variety of open grassland, dense forests and saltmarshes, as well as a great diversity of races. The many islands to the south of the continent are all part of the Greza dominion as well, although negotiations are taking place to return the sovereignty of goblinoids to some of these islands.

Kingdom

Once there were several city states fighting over territories, but now it is all united by a dynasty of kings and queens, the Siwong dynasty, that has held power for over 6 centuries. One supreme ruler inherits the title from the previous ruler, after which they and all their spouses become the kings and queens of Greza, with their other relations adopting the title of prince or princess. The kings and queens tend to spread out and each rule an island or a region, and regularly come together for political decisions, although the supreme ruler always has the final say. The stability of this dynasty is both remarkable and mysterious, especially considering the complicated family dynamics of orcish tribes.

Polygamy

Orcs are part of complex tribes where one can be bound to many others. Only their First Spouse is decided by an orc's parents or chieftain. All other matches are made for love or other personal reasons. How they want to arrange their living conditions is up to themselves, so long as they have at least one heir from their First Spouse. First heirs have a shared right to at least two-thirds of everything their parents owned. The rest is split among any other descendants from other husbands or wives. This practice is still common today, which is what sets Greza culture apart from many other cultures on the continent.

Raiding

Originally raiding was a practice emulating the lifestyle of orcish deities, which were brave warriors that battled chaotic and dangerous forces in realms beyond their own. To accomplish this themselves, orcs became adept at building boats, sailing and raiding other communities. It was considered dishonourable to kill unarmed orcs and take their possessions, but if the targets were not orcs, it didn't count. As the ancient orcish religion faded into oblivion and was replaced with others, brought to Greza by humans and other sentients, the orcs lost their religious motivation to raid. However, the profit of slave trade soon replaced this with a monetary motivation.

Slavery

The enslavement of goblinoids funded Greza's economy for a long time. Whilst tritons and dragonborn managed to integrate themselves into the orcish community through their combativeness and military prowess, the goblinoids could not defend themselves. Almost all traces of the goblins' original culture have been erased. They were subjugated not only by the orcs' physical strength, but also through the use of an alchemical drug which made the goblinoids highly compliant. Then, they were shipped to other countries and sold for profit. Slavery was abolished completely only about a century ago. The kingdom's economy is still recovering from this, as well as its reputation. Greza does still have a formidable navy with skilled commanders. Their warships find employment by protecting neighbouring countries from the aberrations of the deep. Other sources of income have been found in tourism and the trade of gemstones and pearls.

Common (sub)races

While orcs and goblinoids form the majority on Greza's islands, continental Greza also holds settlements of draconic races, gnolls and tritons.
