While it is known as the Emperor's Palace, it is so much more than that. It stands at the centre of trhe
City of Fenixia - a circular building within a circular city.
Appearance
The palace is made up of three rings, each of which is higher than the one outside it, this gives it the appearance of a tiered cake. The adobe walls are studded with wooden poles. These are both structural, to hold the building up, and also decorative, as they are placed in such a way as to form a pattern with the visible ends. Small high windows circle each level, allowing air to circulate without too much heat.
The highest level is a tower room, beloved of each of the Emperor's due to the view it gives over the entire city and beyond the walls. Underneath is a central courtyard for the Emperor's family's use only. Benches circle the walls, while sweet smelling flowers bloom in large pots placed strategically to split the area up into smaller nooks.
Use
The middle ring contains the private living areas of the Emperor and their family. As there is no Emperor, the
Parent Council decided to close off the inner sections of the palace. Everything inside is secured and wrapped to protect it, and every week servants clean through to keep it ready, just in case it is needed. Though that is assumed to be hypothetical, rather than possible.
The outer ring of the Palace contains all the central functional and administrative offices for the Empire as a whole. This includes what was the throne room , or audience room, the council meeting room, and the archive, as well as offices for those who work for the central functions, rather than the families.
