Demigods

Demigods are a race of deities that stand bellow the the Ten Gods. Each and everyone of them is connected with either an Inner or Elemental Sphere Unlike Ten, they are able to enter Ferdlan, but they have power over very specific aspects of existence.

Divinity

Split power

The power of a demigod is separated in two parts - Authority and Essence. The first one is the power of a rightful sovereign over a part of the world. The divine domain used to answer prayers and stabilize the world. It is however not directly a power of the demigod, and it's uses are mostly limited to these two. Essence is what can be called the private power of god and is typically used to further the demigods goals. It is not a 'fuel' to be used up, but more like a 'power level' and describes the extent of power a demigod can use at once.

Death

Killing a demigod is in no way easy, but it can be done. They are immune to old age, disease or poison unless it is specificaly designed to target demigods, but can still be killed phisically. In a battle, a demigod uses only their own power, so typically one with higher Essence wins. Then, the winner can absorb the losers power, while the Authority is lost, unless the gathering of the Ten Gods decides otherwise. Judgement is usually made after listening to both or only one side (before or after the battle) and is based on how well the new Authority fits the previous ones, as well as the possible missbehaviour of the god in question. So a demigod of campfires has a far greater chance to steal the Authority of candles then rivers.

Ascension

Few mortals are capable of defeating a demigod in a group, not to mention alone. However, those cases do happen, and in that case the one who dealt the killing blow can ascend to replace the killed demigod. For it to happen the mortal has to be both willing and strong enough to withstand the ascension. Existance can forbid the ascension, but it rarely ever happens. In the process, divine Essence is absorbed into the soul and the body changes to accomodate the great power.

If one of those conditions are unmeet, the Authority goes back to Existance. Essence however is left in place and without becoming a demigod, no normal mortal is capable of withstanding the Essence. To contaign it and somehow utilise it, merging it with a phisical object that then turns into orichalcum.

Deification

Killing an already existing demigod is not the only way to become one. If one is both strong enough and dedicated enough, with the aproval of Existance one can undergo deification, gaining a new Authority. It cannot be more important in the world then one can handle. All ablities of the person are converted into Essence forming the base for the new demigod. Knowledge and personality are retained with the addition of a set of information inherent to all deities.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Typically, they retain the form they used prior to deification. That, however, can be refined over time to better suit the god's tastes, or more importantly, their Authority.
