The Mirskwood (Mer-sk-wud)
A large span of thick and old forest that encompasses hundreds of square miles between the Verdant Mountains and the Emerald Sea. Home to your expected forest residents, as well as many elven clans, and many fey creatures. The deeper areas of the Mirskwood harbor a thin veil between Fiore and Faerie, and many believe that its vibrancy is due to this connection. Many smaller portals between the two realms can be found throughout the forest, though these are temporary and have no guarantee of remaining should you enter one. Due to the duality of Faerie and Shadowfell, the veil in the Mirskwood will occasionally shift which realm is allows access to. This change in ethereal borders is reflected throughout the forest, causing it to become a much darker and dangerous place when Shadowfell is on the other side. The change will happen every few centuries, though it is entirely unpredictable, sometimes occurring far sooner or later than anticipated. The elven clans that call the Mirskwood home are always prepared for the shift, reveling in the time of closeness with Faerie, and standing vigil during the darker times of Shadowfell.
