Yalean

Yalean is the capital of Eysa Thalore and the largest city found in it's borders. It is a perfect picture of dichotomy. A large city with a small burg feel; energized, but slow paced; peaceful, but armed. This is largely in part by the great Sacred Forest Elynelon that surrounds it's meadow and city scape. Elynelon provides food, magical herbs, and protection. But Yalean provides protection as well. Through rules, laws, and an impressive military force, Yalean is ready to protect Elynelon at any cost. It is important to mention the magic that flows between the two as well. Yalean is home to the Emmil Magric School of Magic, just outside it's city limits. Elynelon provides the magic and tools young mages need, and in turn, they grow to become great forces that imbue Elynelon back with magical protection and healing. Every resident of Yalean or the Emmil Magric School of Magic have taken a vow to never harm Elynelon. And to even protect it with their very being.   "For that that gives life, deserves said life." -Emmil Magric   Yalean is not a city of hustle-and-bustle, but rather a gentle deliberate flow. Much like the Sacred Forest, time loses all meaning here. There is no rush to build, it has no room to expand. There is no rush to improve, life is beyond comfortable already. There is no rush to prepare for summer or winter, life will prevail. Though there is little export, Yalean has the interesting position of being taken care of by Eysa Thalore as a whole, much like Elynelon. Much to the surprise of everyone, this does not cause much of a class divide. With such a carefree life, much is given in stake; and many do not envy it. Within the meadow, there is three classes. Noble Mage, Noble Warrior, and citizen. Citizens work to maintain the city and Elynelon; not the Nobles, however. This culture of caring for nature and one another, rather than possessions (Eshllenora) has sustained Yalean and many other cities, towns, and burgs in all of Eysa Thalore.

Government

Yalean is but one arm of the tetrarchy that governs Esya Thalore. As the largest city and capital of the state, it does have a larger vote; though has never has used it. The Four Kingdoms convene within Yalean every 100 years to discuss matters of politics, economy, and culture. Pax Centennial, as it is called, is a large event as it is the only time those that have not taken a lifelong vow are able to enter the Sacred Forest and capital. An ambassador from each city, town, and burg can gather to voice their needs. With the information gathered, the Four Kingdoms confer and change any rules, laws, policies, or politics as needed.

Defences

Though peaceful in nature, every fey and person in Yalean is prepared to give their life for Elynelon. All are trained in combat or magic. Work schedules almost always include training days to keep skills sharp. The real defenses come from the Forest itself. With thick vegetation, teeming predators, and a labyrinthian of trees, Elynelon can protect it's protectors without any walls. The only part of the city that does feature walls is the Fortress to the north. The "last line of defense", it is designed to oversee the entire city and Sacred Forest with ranged attacks.

Industry & Trade

Yalean is not known for it's industry or trade. In fact, very rarely does Yalean export anything other than newly trained mages. The Emmil Magric School of Magic and Elynelon are the draws that bring not only people, but their recourses and support as well.

Infrastructure

The infrastructure of Yalean is something to be marveled. How they bult such tall structures with only wood is beyond comprehension. To the north it features a large Fortress that towers over even the trees of Sacred Forest Elynelon. The whole city is home to double decker buildings with suspended walkways. All features are beautifully carved and wood burned.

Districts

Yalean is split into four Districts. The Parks to the south is the main entrance to Yalean. The main path through Elynelon split to three roads that split this district up. The Parks is home to the main drag of stores and warehouses. Elmcliff, located centrally, is the extravagant shopping district. It features high end stores than it's counterparts spread throughout Yalean. To the west there is the district Meadwood. It homes the majority of citizens. Then, to the north, there is North Town; the largest district. It is home to all the Nobel Mages and Nobel Warriors, though most homes are not lavish. North Town is situated between Yalean and the Fortress, as well as, Emmil Magric School of Magic.

History

Yalean was founded in 113 AC after Emmil Magric formed the tetrarchy of Esya Thalore. It was the fastest built city, despite having to import building materials. It was only a few short years later that the Emmil Magric School of Magic was founded as well.

Points of interest

The most notable point of interest is not in Yalean proper, but to the meadow just north of town. It is home to Emmil Magric School of Magic. It is the most prestigious school in the realm. It, much like Yalean, has built up rather than out. The only exception being the greenhouses that dot the meadow floor, a grand total of 34 at present. And unlike the city, the school itself is mostly made of stone. It also features two large spires that act as another defense for Elynelon.   Another point of interest that helps orient the entire city is the fortress north of the city. It is impressive not only in its size but architecture as well. The building is almost entirely made of wood, with the only stone used as a foundation and first floor. It is so massive it actually sees above the trees. Don't expect a tour however, as only Noble Mages are permitted to enter.   The most social point is The Exalted Horse, a whimsical tavern and inn. It only features 4 rooms and a large dormitory to hold ambassadors for the Pax Centennial every 100 years. Though the tavern, that spans three stories, is something to admire. With lively music, endless Fuddle wine, and arcana contests, The Exalted Horse is the place to spend your time.

Tourism

To the envy and dismay of many, Yalean does not offer tourism or host guests.

Architecture

The architecture in Yalean has been born of a necessity to build up, rather than out. It is multilayered in it's approach to fit everything in such a small meadow. It has also mimicked the trees that surround it; tall, winding, buildings with arms that outreach to support others. Roofs that have crown shyness and don't touch, allowing light to still reach the ground.

Geography

Yalean was built in the meadow in the middle of Elynelon, the Sacred Forest. It spans approximately 88 acres. Since the meadow is small compared to the size of the city, it has built up and not out. Most buildings span double decker 2 stories. The main roads come in from the south, with one road to the north that connects the Emmil Magric School of Magic and the town Oreriar.

Climate

Much like most of Eysa Thalore, it is sunny and temperate almost year round. Summers are hot, but not scorching. Winter is cold but does not feature blizzards. It does receive the torrential downpours Eysa Thalore is known for, but the soil and slight slope of the landscape prevent it from flooding often. The trees of Elynelon prevent too much wind, only allowing a slight breeze, and also shades the surrounding area, creating a very cool environment.

Natural Resources

Yalean does not in-of-itself offer many natural resources as most are deemed sacred. However, the soil gathered from the meadow (much like from Elynelon) offers unique properties some magical herbs require to grow. Though not done in great amount, it is the only location to cultivate and export Hanimula.

Much like Eysa Thalore as a whole, the primary colors for Yalean's emblem is yellow and green like the nature and sun surrounding them. It features a prominemt tree with large leaves. This symbolizs the Sacred Forest of Elynelon that surrounds the city. Much like the emblem, the leaves stay large and vibrant even in the harshest of months.
