Gredderleth Hospital (greh-dur-leth)

A Hospital to Combat the Wilting Disease

The locals watched from afar as a new wagon emerged. Hospital staff then unloaded stretchers where tarps covered over the patient. A bony and sickly arm slumped from one of them. The hand still tried squeezing with what little strength it had. It raised up towards the physician, only stopping a foot away. A raspy voice pleaded, “I’m not going to make it like this! It’s my fault. People will be infected and die because of me!” Soft sobbing was the last we heard before they went into Gredderleth.

The eladrin elves knew the man was a goner. The Wilting Disease had spread too far. We could only bow our heads in silence.

Purpose / Function

The Wilting Disease, or Arkonian Plague as it’s commonly known as, is a highly contagious illness. It’s the core purpose behind the elves of Elvarid to flee their beloved home and the motivation to build Gredderleth. The hospital’s core function is to specialize in treating this disease.

Outsiders often speculate that you need to be infected with the Wilting Disease to get further treatment. Duke Windell and Dr. Firatiri have made it clear it can be used for the treatment of general ailments and injuries alike.

Architecture

Eladrin, the oldest known variant of elves, are the masterminds behind its construction. The key difference among the rest of its neighboring buildings are the use of stone. Early in its construction, they thought the Wilting Disease would rot through the architecture and bring everything apart and refused the risk.

This would not stop old habits from dying hard, however. The eladrin still adorn their signature vines across windows and sprouting foliage around the area. The main hope was to inspire at least some beauty so whoever came here and died of the Wilting Disease didn’t do so in a dark and gloomy structure.

History

During the time of the Necromantic War, a conflict started over the consequences of necromancy’s founding, the first opened theater was in Elvarid. Dreadlord Sar'Ganockt needed a weapon that would weaken the Feydom’s tight organization compared to a chaotic and clustered force of gnolls. Thus, the Wilting Disease was introduced.

Entire fields became spoiled in hours. The afflicted fey and such descendants perished in only a week of contracting it. By the war’s end, the Feydom knew they couldn’t stay in their home of Elvarid, for the disease’s potency is stronger there. Thus, they made a vast exodus into Florenelle, the vulnerable material world. There, they founded the City of Regalia along with the much needed Gredderleth Hospital.
