Strugatovka (/struɡɑtofkɑ/)

Strugatovka Island holds its name from the two brothers that were the first adventurers to settle on this uninhabited island : their status as local heroes still holds today as they embody the resilience of the people of the island against the mysteries and dangers that dwell near their communities. More than adventurers, they are seen as visionaries that set the country on the path of progress and knowledge for decades to come.

Although Strugatovkan technology and applied arcane knowledge are the main attraction for foreign powers and people, the island also attracts many treasure hunters, mercenaries, and scientists of all backgrounds. However, it is highly recommended by the local authorities not to leave the safe zones. Security cordons and patrols are very common in some parts of the islands, for the elite sages enforce a very opaque and secretive system regarding new discoveries on the island. The system is rather efficient, but there always are leaks, as rumors and black market schemes start to develop...

History & Culture:

Not much is known about the history of the island before the first settlers. Odd tales are told by the elders around The Founding, and the traces of past inhabitants of the island. Now, people have grown used to the eerie atmosphere of the island, and live comfortably in the main settlements, safely ignoring the either way disturbing mysteries about the island.
Strugatovkan folks are stout fellows, that take much pride in their work and what it brings to their community. Craftsmanship and innovation are the most celebrated qualities in Strugatovkan culture, as it was what held them together both while seeking asylum from the Great Freezing, but also during the harsh times of The Founding.
As a consequence, most of the work made on the island is driven by progress. All should strive for betterment for all : work hard, work smart, towards a greater future. However, Strugatovkan culture is quite young. Because of that, the different people that settled the island eventually shared their original cultures, created families, businesses, and since togetherness is a very Strugatovkan thing, ended up creating a unique - and messy - cultural melting pot of various origins.

Geography :

The island is quite the geological curiosity. It does float around as many similar formations like the The Whitepeaks Archipelago do. However, it floats so lows that most of its underbelly is hidden underwater, untouched and unexplored.
Most of the settlements and inhabitants are on the western coast, where The Capitol is. while its northern parts are inhospitable and devoid of settlers. The western coast is said to be mostly abandoned, and the navigation difficulties make it so that the island there is also untouched.
Luckily for the Strugatovkans, the southern apart of the island is much more inviting and many smaller settlements are set there, even though high security is enforced in some parts.
When in comes to the Inlands, it is a rocky peak called the [Placeholder Peak]. The difficult terrain there does not allow big structures, however there are some mining camps and a couple of villages on the western and southern slopes.

Politics and Systems :

The Strugatovkan infrastructure of political power functions through a conclave of ambassadors that represents the most influencial organisations on the island. These organisations are what could be called unions : specialists from various fields of work gather and send charismatic, respected members to negotiate and decide who should be in office to regulate the Strugatovkan administration.
Among these factions are are the [Herstellers], the Tekh-Mudretsy, [The Triumvirat] (Bankers/Merchants/Attorneys), and the [Union Secteur Primaire].
Whoever is in charge has the authority to make decisions that can influence all the people on the island. They have control over the Inland authorities and the Outland authorities. For some time now, the power has been in the hands of the Tekh-Mudretsy, but its grip is eroding as they both have lost their edge and now have a few scandals staining their reputation.
