Amastacia Taletreader

Keyleth

Born simply “Key”, her child name, she is a sun elf wizard originally from Evermeet and has spent the last 30 years of her life living along the sword coast, hanging around Waterdeep and Neverwinter. She has a magic circle connection in Neverwinter that connects to Baldur’s Gate and Waterdeep. She even has a secret portal leading to Evermeet, even after being outcast, although she has never used it. Her closest companion is her Great Owl, Falenas, one of the only things she could take with her as she left Evermeet. She was forcibly removed from the Land of the Elves not because of her “radical” politics, (although she believes that was part of it) but because of her theft of forbidden knowledge that Aurashnee herself used in her bid to supplant Corellon. While the god may approve of the expansion of magical knowledge, even he believed Key had crossed a line.   Amastacia’s Magic One of the most striking features is her incredible connection to the Weave and her knowledge of it. Her professors in Waterdeep were astounded by how fast she learned. For an elf of her skill level, she is very, very young. Born in 1369 DR, she has only been considered an adult by Elven culture for about ten years by Valindra's second siege. Her endless thirst for knowledge and desire to shape the Weave are what got her on the bad side of the people of Evermeet, but even now she still hunts for more power. By 1490 DR, she had harnessed the power of Elven high magic, Feywild magic, Far Realm Magic, spellfire, Shadow magic and more. She doesn’t like to define herself by one school, either, and is considered a master of evocation and abjuration, and highly skilled in all other schools. Some are wary that Amastacia’s ever growing magical powers will be her folly, like Karsus, and her elven ancestors that so badly wanted to return to Arvandor. They may be right, as she ventures into the Far Realm on her own whims, studies forbidden magic like she is reading the newspaper in the morning, and has had a few extremely powerful magical outbursts during her travels. Some say she once dined with a mindflayer after her raw magical prowess proved too much for it. Elminster, whom she met in the Well of Dragons, is keeping a close eye on her, but he fully supports (most of) her endeavors.   Amastacia’s Messy Religion Amastacia may say she doesn’t have any desire to get the favor of the Seldarine back, but she has not yet felt the extremely magnetic call to Arvandor. She has been a follower of Oghma since she set foot on the Sword Coast, and when Mystra formerly returned in 1487 DR, the goddess was immediately intrigued by this extremely powerful mage. Instead of being only a follower of Mystra, she is more of a friend soon after she contacts her. The goddess of magic is shown to be friendly with mortals often (see Elminster and Gale of Waterdeep) so this isn’t too far fetched, not to lessen the magnitude of her position, though.
“Elves traditionally get their true names at around a century of life. So, when I reached that point, I decided to give myself a name: Amastacia, meaning star flower, what my mother would call me. And without a family, I needed to pick a surname. Taletreader. It signifies that I am to forge my own path, either on my own or with the help of others. I am an outcast, but that won’t stop me from becoming something greater than my circumstance. We are what we make of ourselves, regardless of our origins. This is something Corellon himself knows,” -Amastacia Taletreader
