SKT: Session 1: The beginning of a Giant adventure
General Summary
So penned by mine own hand,Chapter the First: The Call to Nightstone
On a dusky eve, upon a crossroad where fate wove its strands, five travelers gathered under the fading sun. Thyme Bramble, sturdy and weathered as the stones she trod upon, strode with purpose—her chain mail glinting in the twilight as weapons hung at her side, each with stories of their own. Beside her walked Juniper, small in stature but bearing wisdom behind those large, curious glasses, her delicate hands wrapped around a tome as if it were a treasured secret. She was of the forest and wielded magic like a shield for the spirit, her eyes shifting subtly in hue as if nature itself whispered through them. Close behind them followed Uvar, tall and weathered, whose shadow flashed with streaks of lightning—a celestial spark that told of oaths yet unspoken. Hunched yet towering was Madra, a true son of the north, carrying a grim muzzle as both protection and warning. Silent but sure was Azure, a Genasi with a restless air, his hair a wispy cloud caught in perpetual drift, carrying within him whispers of places unseen. Together, they took heed of a sign that beckoned toward Nightstone. With the night drawing close, they followed the worn trail north, where the only sound was the tolling of a bell that cut through the stillness. Before them lay a village shrouded in mystery and ringed by water, its palisade casting long shadows as the twilight deepened. Yet, there was a sinister silence here. Stones lay strewn, and buildings bore wounds from a recent violence. As Azure scouted ahead, he spotted the hulking forms of Worgs in the square, devouring the remains of a fallen dog. With strategy and a dose of gallows humor—Thyme estimating the beasts at “twelve apples tall”—the party engaged. Blades met fangs, and the air crackled with spells as goblins danced and taunted nearby, blissfully unaware of the approaching storm. Their victory over the Worgs led them deeper into Nightstone’s secrets. Madra, driven by the relentless tolling, sought out the source, uncovering a pair of goblins swinging from the bell rope in a macabre revelry. In a flash, the goblins’ play turned deadly, and the fight was swift and brutal. Supplies plundered, the party moved on, ever wary of what lay in the shadows. In the Inn, crumbled yet defiant, Azure and Uvar led the search for survivors. There, hidden within a darkened corner, was Kella Darkhope, a woman cloaked in Monk’s robes with a serpent coiled at her arm. Her tale was one of ambush and survival, of goblins and giants, and her plea was simple: clear the town, or doom it further. The quest took them to the heart of Nightstone, where ruins told of terror from above. The bridge lay shattered, and the keep, once a symbol of protection, now stood partially collapsed. Inside, the remnants of a guard stood vigil over Lady Velrosa, their fallen leader. They spoke of giants from a floating citadel, pale as winter’s breath, who stole the Nightstone itself—an ancient relic of mysterious power. Desperate, hungry, yet unable to cross the moat, the guards entrusted the village’s fate to the party. As Juniper and Uvar searched the abandoned homes, uncovering secrets of lost villagers and strange magic, they encountered goblins still cavorting and squabbling among the rubble. Blows and spells filled the air as Goblin after goblin fell, though not without a chase, as a lucky few escaped into the night. And thus did their journey begin—not with a triumph, but with a burden and a promise to the silent village of Nightstone. Yet what lies within this tale is greater than its humble beginnings, for here, at this crossroad of fate, these five became bound not only to each other but to a legend that was only just awakening.
