Session 1: You Must Gather Your Party Before Venturing Forth Report

General Summary

29 Kythorn, 1393 DR (Day 1)

The story begins in the bustling town of Oakhurst. Hedid, a half-elven paladin of Tyr, is confidently walking its busy streets. She has arrived here with a purpose – to fulfill her duty and help those in need. One such person is Kerowyn Hucrele, shopkeep of Kerowyn’s Goods, the village’s only general store. That’s where the paladin is headed.   After reaching her destination, Hedid discovered that someone had beaten her to it. Kerowyn had a visitor – an elven ranger named Shava, who seemed to have the same goal – offer assistance with the shopkeep’s troubles.   Kerowyn had a single worry on her mind – her children had gone missing. About a month ago, they embarked on an adventure to the Sunless Citadel, and they haven’t been seen since. She offered a generous reward in exchange for information regarding their fate or even better, their safe retrieval.   Hedid and Shava agree to join forces for this mission, knowing that venturing into ancient fortresses on their own would be far too dangerous. They needed help and Old Boar, the town’s tavern was the best starting point towards getting it.   halflingWelcomed by the Old Boar’s stale smell of ale, Shava and Hedid approached Garon the barkeep. They inquired about possible help in the form of mercenaries or fellow adventurers, when suddenly, the conversation was interrupted by a loud crash! A table had been angrily knocked over on the tavern floor and around it, several furious dice players were standing. They were all pointing towards their fellow gambler, a Norg, a sorcerer with a mysteriuous past, also had taken interest in the circumstance and followed their lead. Meanwhile Thorbjörn the dwarf fighter, after finishing his mug of ale, had his own reasons for pursuing them.   They all met a few blocks away in a narrow alley. The halfling’s tracks lead here, but instead of a blond man Hedid and Shava saw Cora, a female halfling sorcerer with dark hair. She is in the middle of losing her blond man’s disguise. Norg and Thorbjörn join shortly after, and this colorful collection of characters has attracted the attention of another soon-to-be hero – Pock the gnome wizard.   After exchanging pleasantries in the alley, the six adventurers discover that although their immediate goals are different, they all point towards the Sunless Citadel. After stocking up in Rurik’s place, who’s a dwarven drinking buddy of Thorbjörn, that’s where the party is headed.   Since Shava already knew how to arrive to the site of the ancient keep, it didn’t take much time for the group to reach it, following the great chasm that swallowed the fortress years ago. The freshly assembled adventuring party also got to test their team’s combat prowess by taking down a bunch of tree monsters infesting the area.
Broken, fallen pillars marked the place where the great stronghold once stood. Conveniently, another party had left a rope dangling down from one of the pillars, which made for an easy drop into the chasm. Some complications arose in the form of giant rats, but were dealt with easily enough.   The way down continued with several flights of still intact stairs, which finally led to the bottom of the chasm, and within it, the great fortress that had stood the test of time, the Sunless Citadel. Adventure awaits...
