Kalandurren

The celestial mountain of Kalandurren was a shining beacon of justice. Beneath the radiance of its holy golden orb, Kalandiel, servants of all good powers built an inescapable prison to confine the greatest of evils that could not simply be destroyed.

The agents of Kalandurren travelled far and wide to deliver their justice. Their zeal turned to fervor, then fervor into frenzy. The wardens of Kalandurren had been subverted from within by demonic powers. Their righteous devotion degenerated into brute subjugation. In a final revolt from within, the prison was overrun by demons and Kalandiel, the golden orb, was corrupted and cracked open to spill spiritual putrefaction across the entire mountain. The realm was ripped from its place in the upper planes and sunk into Orthrys, the first layer of Carceri.

At the edge of a great bog filled with decaying trees, a sharp plateau rises to the ruin of Mount Kalendurren. The blackened remains of Kalandiel hang forlornly above the mountain's desolate, enshrouded peak. The prison, a demiplane within the mountain itself, remains, but its adamantine gates were ripped from the mountain and now stand mired in a fetid bog.

Within the prison itself, who can say what remains of the prison's original guardians, or what has become of its prisoners. Certainly, some beings told to be held within have be seen travelling the multiverse freely, while others have failed to emerge. Legends perist that some iterations of the "Donjon" card in a deck of many things send their targets to Kalandurren and an unknown fate.
