Teziir

The year is 1490. Teziir is a frontier town on the Southern coast of the Dragonmere. Teziir is mainly a fishing and trade town, run by the Council of Teziir. Teziir has a normal population of around 5,000, which swells to over 6,000 in the summer period. There is also a population of prospectors and miners who ply their trades in the cliffs and mountains outside the city. Teziir boasts a large Shou population, a result of increased emigration westward along the Golden Way. Since the late 15th century DR, Teziir has become a protectorate of Cormyr, and become much more prosperous in a short amount of time. However, its citizens have also become quite untrusting of outsiders, especially those from foreign nations.   The Dragon Coast is the region along the southern shore of the Dragonmere, and the lands west of the Sea of Fallen Stars. Its city-states and pirate outposts serve as a confluence of great cultures, from the archaic Old Kingdoms to the east, the profitable and deadly lands of the Vilhon Reach to the south, and the realms of the Western Heartlands. It is a place of intrigue and danger, where profit and lucrative opportunities abound, for adventurers, merchants, and criminals alike.   Teziir, was founded in 1312 DR on the ruins of previous city sites. The town is known for (in no particular order): its rich ruling merchant council, a menacing thieves guild (the Astorians), a relatively large number of temples, not having any city walls, and occasional pirate raids (perhaps because of the previous feature).

History

The Spellplague did not spare Cormyr, but it survived relatively unharmed, save for the loss of a third of its War Wizards. The Wailing Years were not so kind to all its neighbours, and many would join the budding empire as Cormyr reluctantly grew to counter the Netherese vassal-state of Sembia. Tensions between Cormyr and its neighbours Netheril and Sembia were constant, further fuelled by the assassinations of Cormyrean royalty.   Between 1484 DR and 1486 DR Cormyr fought a war on two fronts as it mustered troops to defend the Dalelands against Sembia's invasion and its own borders were invaded by Netheril. King Irvel Obarskyr was killed during the Siege of Suzail and was succeeded by his daughter Queen Raedra Obarskyr. By the end of the war Cormyr had successfully reclaimed its land from the Sembian and Netherese forces and turned its focus to recovery. Since 1486 DR, Queen Raedra Obarskyr has ruled the country and focused on rebuilding after the past few years of war.   Teziir, remote though it might be from the centre of power in Cormyr, is entering a new phase of its life as it reacts to the queen's plans. The crown's agents want to expand the village's port and make it a prime location for trade with the world beyond. In another recent development, a band of dwarves—bearing a decree from the queen herself—have arrived and begun to excavate the hills and seaside cliffs near town, looking for precious metals. If their work bears fruit as expected the mine stands to become a major factor in the village's—and, indeed, the entire region's—prosperity.   Naturally, not all Teziir’s residents feel the same way about the recent developments in and around their community, which is the key issue that affects their lives and livelihood. Although the recent changes stand to bring new prosperity to the area, many locals don't want to see their home changed. At the same time, as an undercurrent through all the goings-on, agents of the secretive and mysterious Astorians work to thwart Cormyr's ambitions while advancing their own.
