Zakhara

Zakhara (pronounced: /zɑːˈkærɑː/ zah-KARR-ah[5]), also known as the Land of Fate, was a giant peninsula of the same super-continent that hosted Faerûn and Kara-Tur on the planet Abeir-Toril. The land was located south and east of Faerûn, beyond the region of the Utter East, with the closest Faerûnian lands to Zakhara being Dambrath and Var the Golden (by sea) and Ulgarth or arguably Konigheim (by land). Zakhara was mostly isolated from the rest of the world, as the peninsula was separated from the main mass by the treacherous World Pillar Mountains.   The Land of Fate was home to a diversity of non-human inhabitants, but the majority comprised human Zakharans with brown skin, dark hair, and relatively small height. They usually all spoke the common language of Midani and shared in the common culture of Enlightenment; racial values were much less prominent than elsewhere. Only a few Zakharans ventured outside their homeland, usually as traders, and could typically be found only in the very south of Faerûn. At least two human groups were the exception to this rule: the peoples of the Bedine and Calishites came from the Land of Fate to Faerûn in the ancient past with the help of portals.   The seas around Zakhara were plagued with pirates and corsairs who charged traders tolls to cross their seas, such traders willingly paid these exorbitant fees as Zakhara's exotic trading goods tended to be well worth the price back in Faerûn. Occasionally the pirates decided to completely cut off Zakhara from Faerûn.   The land was full of secretive cities, unwelcoming to travelers, huge deserts, lush oases, and powerful genies who meddled in the affairs of humans frequently. The continent was governed by a theocracy headed by the Grand Caliph, a prestigious ruler of the state, who ruled from the capital city of Huzuz, the City of Delights. The symbol of Zakhara was the moon and trailing stars. Tales told of demon-infested cities and godless sorcerers, like the genie-binding sha'irs wielding strange magic. Zakhara was a land of many types of exotic magic and powerful warriors. Zakharans were firmly convinced they were more civilized than the rest of the world and treated these "barbarians" accordingly.   geography;   The North, West, and Center of the Continent were crowded with mountains and deserts that stretch near endlessly. Many small oases and cites dot the landscape of the continent. At the northernmost isthmus of the Peninsula lies the Yikarian Empire, which controls the land border of the continent to Faerun and Kara-Tur    Along the East of the Continent lies a mix of Swamps, Jungle, and plains that spread across the Eastern Coastline. This land is sparsely inhabited with very few towns or villages, let alone cities when compared to the western side of the continent.    To the South Lies a sprawling Archipelago that to the west are smaller dry desert islands and to the east are larger jungle islands, both containing large mountainscapes. While both Differ in terrain, both are also very difficult to traverse due to competing winds and tides, which make the dangerous region even more difficult to traverse. While the rest of the Continent shares a potency for pirates, the South serves as their homeland, with large ships filled with goods heading for foreign shores forced into treacherous waters, what more could a pirate want.
Far West Islands
Far to the West of the Continent lies a group of Islands leading further west. These lands lie mostly unexplored as pirates and merchants who traverse these places mostly keep to themselves. Such lands make the perfect place for hidden treasure, lost civilization, and deadly ambushes, so most prefer to avoid the lands for safe and test waterways. Some though speak of Islands the size of Kingdoms to the north and lands untouched by disease and feudal development. Some Pirates every now and then go to create a land of equals, freedom, and pleasure, never to return or be heard from.    It is said that any good Pirate hopes to one day settle down among these islands with their vast fortune and fulfilled life, and live a plentiful life away from the new dangers that might hunt them. Some succeed, many fail, and every so often young pirates finds these homes and take them for themselves.    A True land of lawlessness, these Islands have many rumors and stories, and most prefer to avoid them if necessary.
