Session 042: The Cherry Snow Festival
General Summary
We begin as the North Wind (plus Colby) go to dinner at the Lukots'. An evening of good food, excessive politeness, and small talk passes. Colby appears to be completely unaware of the topic the whole group is tip-toeing around. Thorn and Mistletoe ask about Aphid's adventures and are very clear that Aphid is the only Lukot with any fear of owls. Talasea shops the Lukot store for a new Springish 'fit. Thorn offers for the group to stay the night, but doesn't fight for them to sleep on his floor rather than staying at the inn.
The next day the group experiences the Cherry Snow Festival.
They run into Colby outside of the shop of Agropona the Floramancer as Agropona tries to convince Colby to get a reading. Colby pounces on the suggestion of their new friends getting readings instead. One by one, they each select three seeds from Agropona's embroidered bag and scatter them across fresh dirt. They each ask their questions and watch as Agropona waves a hand and cause their seeds to grow.
Talasea goes first. *What is the best way to reunite and help my family?* he asks. **The Roots** ✿ heather, luck and protection **The Stem** ✿ mint, consolation and virtue **The Bloom** ✿ zinnia, everlasting friendship Stick to virtue in searching for way to save your family. You may be tempted to take a less honorable path, but the way to get to that everlasting friendship is sticking to virtue. But worry not, everlasting friendship is in the future.
Talasea asks if sticking to virtue means being a good friend and only looks a little disappointed when Agropona answers that it could mean being honorable or above board. Even if there are temptations otherwise.
Agropona gives Talasea their flowers, tells them of people who press the flowers from their floramancy readings, or dry them, or drink them in tea.
Next up is Aphid. *A vibe check, please,* he asks. **The Roots** ✿ dogwood, love overcoming adversity **The Stem** ✿ mistletoe, surmounting difficulties **The Bloom** ✿ hawthorn, hope, particularly hope in love The path ahead will test your love, but remember that you will overcome it, you'll get through it, but have hope, there is strength in you.
Aphid takes his flowers carefully, and only seems a little stressed when he quickly asks who's next.
Jack steps up. *Should I stay with my patron?* he asks. **The Roots** ✿ peony, bashfulness **The Stem** ✿ larkspur, levity **The Bloom** ✿ olive, peace Rooted in bashfulness, maybe born out of nervousness, structured by levity, a suggestion not to take things too seriously, blooming into peace. Rooted into such shy beginnings, suggest going forward is to bring a bit of lightness to it and to look for a future with some peace. Can't tell you whether to stay with your patron, but if that future forbids levity and doesn't look to bring peace, maybe look for a different path. But remember the roots, and that if you've been bashful or reticent so far, or not entirely open, may be a good idea to address that.
Jack holds Brie close, and only seems a little bit hesitant when he says thank you.
Mohr comes forward. *Where is this journey going to lead for me? Is this the right path?* she asks. **The Roots** ✿ basil, a complicated plant, hate or admiration and vitality **The Stem** ✿ sweet william, gallantry, treating others with polite attention/respect **The Bloom** ✿ datura, deceitful charms, a poisonous plant to be treated with care With such a bloom, cannot help but think the roots are not positive, but instead roots of hatred. Growing out of such roots and into such a bloom, would not trust the gallantry of the stem. And to end in deceitful charms... Cannot tell ye yay or nay on whether to stay on this path, but take care. Figures that would treat you with polite respect... wouldn't completely trust it. Charms and over the top politeness, may be rooted in hatred and meant to mislead.
Mohr is quiet. *That's rough buddy,* says Zenith.
Zenith is next. *I want to know if the rest of the Sylandires are important in my future, if I should reconnect with them,* he says. **The Roots** ✿ orange blossom, eternal love **The Stem** ✿ lilac, first love or reminiscence **The Bloom** ✿ aster, daintiness or patience, red denoting fragile love There's still a measure of love to be had with the Sylandires. Growing out of roots of something eternal- but love does not necessarily mean something positive. But with a structure of lilac, there is memory there that holds up what will happen in the future. Whether it is reminiscence you *want* is a question for you to answer. The future, however, is fragile and will require patience in order to get something that you want. Whether it be negative or positive is up to you and the the Sylandires.
Colby bustles forward and slaps their seeds on the table. *What can I do to fix this shit myself? Because I don't want to wait until these people go all the way to the capitol and back to fix my worm problem,* she says. **The Roots** ✿ ladyslipper, preciousness unpredictibility **The Stem** ✿ rose, love of course **The Bloom** ✿ rue, regret Growing from unstable roots, your path forward would be structured by the love you carry, white rose could be good but growing into such a bloom, it can stand for mourning and death. You are in danger of regretting your actions. Might be that taking action is the wrong question. You're standing on unstable ground. Not the answer you wanted, but it's what the Lady has to say to ya nonetheless.
Colby: thanks I hate it! Terrible! Really bad! Agropona: sorry. I'll just compost your regret for ya. There's merch on the way out.
Tal asks for a card that says "I'm a mermaid." Agropona responds, probably some fern fronds for magic/secrecy, water lillies for water, maybe foxglove for riddles/secrets though this is a secret-heavy bouquet, maybe some protea for transformation? feels like there's probably some transformation happening there? maybe some willow- though that's more mourning vibes so maybe not that
Aphid manages not to remark that such a bouquet would be pretty relevant for him as well...
The Cherry Snow festival continues, leaving the heavy thoughts of flowers and paths forward behind. There are flower stalls and cherry blossom face painting, games and shopping for gifts, flower crowns had by all. Colby delights in the hand-cranked ferris wheel and the man who looks bored to death as he reluctantly sends her skyward.
Colby also embarks on a mission to become friends with Artemi the petting zoo attendant.
End of the day, folks heading toward the town square for the Snow Reading, where Agropona will be doing a reading for the town. One last reading ends their day: Columbine, foolishness, strength, peace Hellebore, overcoming scandal and slander Hyssop, cleanliness Must stick to the strength of the roots of our community, foster peace over foolishness. Growth will mean overcoming some scandal, maybe slander if we're unlucky, but we must grow towards cleanliness.
Butterfeld makes a half-hearted joke about keep your yards clean, and the town only seems a little uneasy about the idea of scandal, and a little confused about what cleanliness could have to do with it.
Before parting ways at the end of the day, Colby asks the group if they could update her if they get any answers about the Blight from the Verdant Quarter. Zenith offers for her to come with and she responds that although she would toooootes love to go there, the Verdant Quarter, Vivaria, city living, definitely her favorite, she's unfortunately got a job so she's gotta stay here in Chippinshire. (it's clear to the group that Colby is not a fan either of Vivaria in particular or city life in general, and they already knew there were some feelings about the Quarter)
Colby: okay listen let's just say there's a reason I'm doing this job as far away from that city as possible while being within the country, don't worry bout it
Tal: pretty sure the drama is that they tried to get into the Verdant Quarter and it didn't work out
Colby: number one rule of springish custom is you can be rude as you want as long as you can say it very very nicely
The evening winds down with Aphid insisting on guitar lessons from Jack.
The North Wind settles in for a quiet dinner at the Welcome Inn, ready to exchange the gifts they got for one another, with plans to continue on the path to Vivaria in the morning.
