Session 052: Where in the World is Verity Sandiego?
General Summary
We begin as the party finishes up a long rest. They each make a roll, which I'm sure is normal.
Upon waking, Tal rocks up to Rose Thonemany and asks how she is. Rose reports that she had floated in the void sea for ages before the ship found her. Lucky that she found Alo here. Before the disappearance, she was kicking around in Halitara running an errand, then heard a strange sound, then was lost in water the next moment. Tal introduces himself and asks about Rose's relationship to Alo. Rose's response: not super close? Rose is kind of a distant relation and he was always running at kind of a different pace. There was talk amongst the family when he disappeared, so it was good to hear he was okay- relatively okay. Rose is from Ivaran, but went with the matriarch of the family and her daughter when they headed to Halitara, to sort of work for them
Well, welcome to the ship, Talasea says.
Tal touches base with the crew, and asks about the moment before their disappearance. Similar reports of hearing a sound
Akiya notes that the captain looked up before the sound occurred and sort of braced herself
Run into Temperance, go to talk to the Emperess. The Empress proves to be much more forthcoming than anticipated and shares lots of information, including the existence of a permanent rift in reality that set the Grays on their path. After extracting a promise that the group wouldn't investigate without her, the Empress tells them that the rift is deep within the Autumn Kingdom in the land known as the Feywild.
Interruption: Zenith hears static crackle through his mind.
Zenith, comes Verity's voice. How will we find me now? Captured...
The party dives into action, working together to manifest a cluster of stars within the water that will lead them to Verity. The Empress takes the helm and follows the stream of pointing fingers.
They arrive at an island.
Eerily still amongst the storm-born waves that crash at the deep beaches.
The North Wind (plus Alban) goes ashore. They are met with palm trees and vegetation that are subtly off, too soft-edged, too long. Jack notes a scrap of purple fabric. Alban casts Locate Creature and nods off into the trees. They step into a silent jungle.
Zenith casts Sending to Verity.
Verity, where are you? I think you're in danger and we're trying to find you now.
A long, long, long moment of silence stretches before Verity replies, a hint of that static beneath his voice.
Careful, love, Verity says. The Reverie Raiders don't show mercy. I was on this island by myself for a long time until they arrived. Don't know where they have me.
Jack sends Brie out ahead to scout. Brie is unimpressed, but lopes forward, melting into the underbrush. She stealths ahead, snuffling towards what she thinks she should be looking for. And she finds it. What was once a carefully constructed abode. A lean-to that has been destroyed. A cache of fruits that have been smashed. A bed that has been scattered. And a desaturated splash of blood across the earth.
