The Scroll of the Manipulative Arts
"What have I gotten myself into? I practice meaningless rituals and trials, only for me to be face to face with some wet parchment. My master stood away from the paper as if it demanded respect. He explained that this was a scroll of incantations and how I'm honored to exist in its presence. How could we defend the falling Vindexian front with some crackpot spells? Just as my suspicion of his madness was confirmed, binding chains rose from the ground below me. I was being constricted and killed by my own crazy superior, no one could hear my screams. He told me to calm down as he explained what was happening. My master told me that matter cannot be created or destroyed, but can be manipulated. Magical incantations present in the scroll control the very fabric of matter and they consume your energy. Slowly, the chains retracted and formed back into the floor, and he nudged the scroll toward me. This mage wanted me to complete my military service before I learn these spells. Before I left the chamber I sneaked a look at an incantation. "Inanis Rubrum", that might be useful sometime." - Magi
