FULFREMMEN: THE PERFECTED

The Unintended Catastrophe of the Perfected

Millennia ago, the Engineers, in their relentless pursuit of perfection, inadvertently unleashed the Perfected and their Protomorphs upon the galaxy. This catastrophic event began a chain reaction that devastated vast regions of their space. As the protomorphic outbreak spread, the Engineers faced an existential threat and responded with extreme measures: annihilating entire Proto-Hiveworlds and wiping out their own colonies and creations to prevent the Perfected from transforming them. This brutal conflict nearly led to mutual annihilation. The few surviving Engineers, or Homo Genitor, retreated to deep space, while the Perfected entered a state of hibernation, awaiting the emergence of new life to transform.

The Reawakening of the Perfected

Millennia later, human colonists in the Far Spinward Colonies accidentally disturbed dormant Proto-Hive worlds, awakening the Perfected from their long slumber. After consuming these colonies, the Perfected returned to their dark repose. However, a recent colonial expedition reignited this ancient menace. Resurrected once more, the Perfected now seek to transmute humankind and the beings who engineered them, continuing their destructive path.

SHADES OF BLACK AND FUTURES LOST

A pivotal element in this genetic catastrophe is a chemical agent known as A0-3959X.91-15, created by the Engineers. This black, tar-like substance has both destructive and life-generating capabilities. In its viscous liquid form, it atomizes upon release into the atmosphere, killing or altering all living things within range. The full extent of its mutagenic potential remains unknown, but it is best described as a transformative pathogen. Contact with this "black goo" results in horrific death, monstrous births, or transformation into abominations.   Different strains of this pathogen were developed to create variations in genetic acceleration. Stored in various planetary facilities, some strains were used to bioengineer entire worlds and species, while others were weaponized. These weaponized strains transformed the Engineers and their creations into abominations, including neomorphic, protomorphic, and xenomorphic mutations. Among these, the Perfected emerged as the Engineers' most formidable enemy.   The original, unmutated 26 Draconis Strain that created the Perfected was developed at an Engineer facility on the now-destroyed planet LV-1113. All remnants of this strain were destroyed by the Engineers in this region of space millennia ago. However, the Perfected require this strain to evolve into their next state of being. The nature of this new form remains unknown, but its potential is terrifying.

A CRISIS OF FAITH

The Perfected and the Engineers both revere the same alien form—a cosmic horror known as the Destroying Angels. These beings infest entire populations, birthing sleek, ebony harbingers of death. Archaeological findings, such as stone tablets from remote worlds, suggest that the Engineers were masterful genetic manipulators who spanned the stars, creating life in their own image. According to translations, these beings sought to achieve perfection by recreating the Destroying Angels and then dominating them.   The text suggests that the Engineers' quest to perfect their own Destroying Angels led to the creation of the Perfected. These creations, in turn, infected their masters and transformed them into a new form of life. The Perfected believe they must transform the universe in preparation for the coming of the Destroying Angels. However, scholars debate the accuracy of these translations, with some arguing that they describe only a particular sect of Engineers, while others claim there is insufficient surviving text to draw definitive conclusions.   One thing is certain—the differing ideologies of the Perfected and the Engineers regarding the Destroying Angels led to their conflict. The Engineers' sculptures and art often depict a cruciform being with an elongated curved head, which might represent Xenomorph XX121 or a similar progenitor. This form is central to their genetic experiments, which ultimately led to their downfall. The Engineers' attempts to recreate what they perceived as the perfect organism resulted in their own destruction.   The ancient conflict between the Engineers and the Perfected, sparked by the quest for perfection and the creation of the Destroying Angels, continues to echo through time. As the Perfected rise once more, humanity faces a dire threat that could reshape the very fabric of the galaxy.

SPEED: 3
HEALTH: 12
SKILLS: MOBILITY: 9, OBSERVATION 12
ARMOR RATING: 12 (5 against fire)

FLUIDITY OF MOTION: The Fulfremmen move with a measured grace and can leap twice the distance of a human being without any ill side effects.
COMMUNICATING: The Perfected are curious about human activity and will often simply observe them unnervingly. They communicate psionically, causing shrill vibrations to resonate within one’s skull and delivering their message through images of grotesque and morbid beauty. The jarring communication is experienced by every mind present, applying +1 STRESS LEVEL to anyone within the same zone.
