Imperial Dragon

Imperial Dragons are medium to gigantic sized eastern dragons that call Chanxji their home, depending on their age. They are often red with a white or silver mane. These dragons are seen more as guardians and benevolent than their western counterparts. They can at times blend into their human surroundings, using magic veils of Illusion.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Imperial dragons are Quadruped Dragons that are long and slender. They possess no wings however are able to achieve flight through manipulation of magic and the elements around them. they often have a white or silvery mane of fur running from their heads to their tail ending in a large bushy tuft. They have a long snout that can be either mammalian or reptilian in appearance, and have a pair of large horns that are legendary in strength. Older Imperials grow whiskers that trail along side their forms from their snout as well.   Unlike the western dragons, the Imperial dragons are ambidextrous. They are able to walk upright on their hinds, use their forelegs as hands, as their fore-claws have an opposable digit. Their back claws can even mimic object manipulation, as they have a dew claw that can be used as a thumb. This feature is what often confuses the Imperial dragon with their biped counterparts the Sii-ryujin.

Growth Rate & Stages

The Imperial dragon hatchling is no larger than a large domesticated dog. they however steadily grow much larger as they age. By the age of five years old they are known to posses the intelligence of a human teenager and are able to hold conversations. Mentally, they grow faster than they do physically. This quirk of theirs allows the Imperial dragon to adapt in ways that seem unusual should they come across such need.   By the time the dragon reaches adolescent stage, they are about the size of a small vehicle, and begin to grow their whiskers out. This stage their blue eyes start to color to their natural eye colors, which can remain blue, all the way to gold. They achieve the intelligence of a human adult at this rate and are often struck out on their own at this state. This is the age that most people encounter an Imperial Dragon.   The adult age, they are about the size of a schoolbus, and their whiskers have fully grown. This is the state of life that they begin to hone their innate magic. Even though it is very possible for the dragons as young as 4 years old to do the same. At this state they are looking for mates and settling in their homes be it a cave, or a favorite location of theirs, a tall building with spacious room.   The Elder state is the state of which the dragon has settled down in a permanent home and their size is impressive. They become rarer at this stage of life and are3 often seen as guardians, or monsters by people, depending where they are from.   The Final Stage is Ancient. Though Dragons are immortal they can choose to die if they wish it. Only a few make it to this stage, and often become revered legends. The only known dragon at this state is Wooshu, a dragon-god of nature.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

The Imperial dragons are amongst the smartest species on Gaia. they mentally age up faster than most dragons and often love to learn about the world, they learn languages, art, culture, literature, and history. The most benevolent of imperial dragons see themselves as keepers of history or whatever they took an interest in.   Some of the scientific advances of Changxji were in fact, made by Imperial Dragons that were then passed down to those humans they trusted. However this was al,so a double-edged sword as these humans would then teach others, and often the wrong person may get their information from these sages.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The dragons possess keen eyesight and are able to tell fluctuations of magic within their area. The Imperial dragon is an innate magic-user over the sheer power and strength of their western cousins. They instead use wits, intelligence, and their agility to overcome most obstacles. It is rumored they have psionic abilities as well, however this was only witnessed in a very select few of Imperial dragons.   They are very sensitive to wind pressure and wind changes, as their primal elements are either wind, or water. This can usually be told by features the dragon may have.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Like all dragons, Imperial dragons do partake in inter-species relations all though it is very rarely. They can mate with almost any intelligent or sapient lifeforms on Gaia. It is said that the Sii-ryujiin race was created from this very thing.   Half-dragons are a thing, but they are very very rare. A half dragon that had an Imperial Dragon Parent would often start showing their features months after birth. These half dragons often maintain the tail, legs, and horns of their parent dragon. The physical features of such an offspring can vary, but a tail and the hindquarters of an Imperial dragon are almost always guaranteed to be in their half-breed children.   It is worth to note, the physical features are dominant at birth. They only hatch from eggs if the mother is the dragon. If this is the case, they will look much more draconic than if they were birthed from a mother that wasn't dragon. There are no records of how they were conceived, but it is imagined that a non-dragon female must undergo a C-section to safely give birth, as the tail and claws could do some serious damage.
