Primordial
Primordial is the language of the elemental planes, and is the original root language of Dwarvish and Giant. The primordial script is an angular alphabet, and is commonly adapted for use by other languages. For all intents and purposes Primordial was the first language, and some ancient beings, such as Hecatoncheires, still know it as their mother tongue.
It is a matter of debate as too the linguistic geneology of Primordial based languages. Giant is almost certainly a direct descendent, but from there it becomes messy. Giants will say that they taught the language too Dwarfs, and Dwarfs will claim that Goblins and Orcs stole the alphabet during their raids on the fortress, and all races claim that their language was granted to them directly by their gods.
As well as a phonetic alphabet, Primordial has a character form, but this is all but lost. The few samples that exist are all powerfully magic symbols that embody their meaning. The shear precision and complexity of these characters makes communicating in it all but impossible, to say nothing of their effects on the materials they are carved into.
Theory has it that these Primordial runes are the origins of the various languages of magic. See @[Runes of Power].
There are 4 dialects of primordial, for each of the elemental planes, but a command of primordial allows one to comfortably encompass all of them.
