Magister's Island for the Afflicted

The Magister's Island for the Afflicted was built to house those afflicted by the ARIV virus early in its outbreak in the late 460s early 470s. Here, the virus was studied as infected individuals from around the country were brought. The idea here was simple, isolate and quarantine infected until staff figured out how the virus was transmitted. Once the transmission criteria of ARIV were determined, measures would be put in place to permanently protect staff and residents while lifting quarantine. This way the Island could prevent infected individuals from transmitting to the general populace and learn more about the disease itself.   The Island was built as an archipelago of interconnected man-made islands anchored to the seafloor by impressive engineering and magic. The different sections could be accessed through tunnels and bridges above and below the water, with checkpoints in between for sanitation and decompression.    Residents of the Island were given the best care possible during their stay. Unfortunately, the lethality and novel nature of ARIV meant that staff was forced to come to terms with most of the residents dying before any kind of cure could ever be found. A monument to those who have died to ARIV rests in the center of the Island, floating on its own platform.

Purpose / Function

The Island for the Afflicted was made in response to the rampant outbreak of ARIV during the Hateful March.  Infected individuals were brought here to be tested and housed with special care being taken to avoid infection. Most of what is known today about ARIV came from the study of residents and prevented the disease from becoming an epidemic.

Alterations

In 485, the Island moved from focusing on ARIV to instead studying various novel diseases and the floating island broke itself into interconnected sections that could easily be sealed off from each other. This has allowed for an impressive response time from Emane in regard to new diseases.    Much of the residential areas were made into living quarters for staff. Each disease section of the island has its own corresponding staff sections where staff is housed.

Tourism

Only residents and staff are allowed on the island proper in order to protect the general populace. Families and friends can visit residents at a building nearby the loading bay. They can visit whenever they like as long as the resident is completely uninjured and is following their set routine.
