Grettania

A country in the Northeast region of Hythenos. It has been ruled by various governmental factions, most recently the Grettanian Empire.   Grettanian Worldbuilding General   •Main industry is energy: heavy usage of renewable energy sources with high to perfect efficiency. •In addition, the Goultani can use their powers/knowledge to efficiently burn most of the waste produced by their country, whether it be bio waste (unused animal parts, unclaimed humanoid remains, septic waste, etc.) or inorganic waste (trash). Damaged weapons, armor & other metal objects is melted into alloys and recycled domestically, while other waste that cannot be incinerated is exported to the Seregan Islands. Danarim and the other coastal cities were crucial for the logistics of these exports, as Grettania is a mostly inland nation •The toxic gases from the energy factories is contained into contentrated canisters with Goultani magic & technology. These toxins are then sold off to the military, alchemists, poisoners, potion makers & other users, either domestically or to the Seregan Islands. Any remaining ashes or solid/liquid byproduct is exported to the Seregan Islands for transmutations.     Grettanian Military - four branches   1. Grettanian Guard - domestic army, protects the homeland and polices the populace. Soldiers who don’t make the cut for the other divisions end up here. The Grettanian Navy, while tiny, rolls up into the Grettanian Guard   2. Imperial Army - Garen’s aggressor military, responsible for conquest. The Imperial Army is made up of several corps, which can operate separately and/or collectively.   •Imperial Knightroopers - well-trained soldiers that made the cut for Garen’s imperial forces. The Knightroopers are the standard foot soldier for the Imperial Army the Grettanian supersoldier program rolls up into this core •Imperial Goultaknights •Imperial Warmages   3. Imperial Air Force - consists o   Imperial Army Equipment (standard issue) •Longsword •Heavy Crossbow •Fume Grenade - filled with concentrated, toxic gas, a byproduct of Grettania’s trash&shit-burning energy plants. •Knight helmet - face slits neutralize air toxins   Specialized Imperial Army Equipment •longbow, arrows & fume arrows (scoutroopers) • heavy weapons (heavytroopers, supersoldiers & Goultaknights) • shields (shieldtroopers) •slugbow (Goultaknights)     Grettanian Military Special Projects •Project Bigfoot: goal was to breed captured ogres, raise their offspring from birth, and tame them to be soldiers for the Grettanian military. Mostly successful •Project Draketooth: goal was to steal Storm Dragon eggs, genetically modify their intelligence & size, raise the wyrmlings from birth, and tame them to be war beasts for the Grettanian military. Partially successful; relatively few of them at their disposal •Project Superdose: goal was to develop an artificial serum from the Goultani Gaioforce and imbue regular humans with its power. Somewhat successful, but relatively new and only enhances physical prowess; does not give them a true Gaioforce connection  

Other Facts

Grettania was a major city in the Hythenos Empire before & during the Elder Wars. As such, it was highly militarized with warriors, mages & magitech. After the Elder Wars, Grettania’s infrastructure, military, geography & economy established it as the strongest human nation in the world & the strongest country in Eastern Hythenos. Despite their strong religious history (worshipped Hytheron & one of his sons primarily), Grettania stood out from the other Eastern Hythenos countries through its secular direction, focusing on arcane & Gaioforce development in ways lost or undiscovered during the Divine Era. The secularity of Grettania allowed for the gradual agnosticism or atheism of its people, particularly politicians in power. It also allowed for the rise of other religious factions like the Church of the One, who capitalized on its citizens’ religious doubt (created by the absence of the gods) to amass power (stand-in for Christianity). However, due to the secular focuses of the country, the Church of the One only gained footing amongst the poor & middle class people that didn’t still worship Hytheron’s pantheon, and was treated as a joke by upper class & educated people.   The magitech & military infrastructure of Grettania allowed for a perfect nation to stand against other strong powers within Hythenos, which perfectly served the ambitions of villains like Garen & Dr. Zaethis.   During Zaethis’ reign, the Church of the One & other religious institutions within Hytheron’s pantheon were heavily persecuted to the point of genocide. By the end of his reign and the start of the Grettanian Civil War, remnants of these religious institutions consolidated together under what remained of the Church of the One, having seen that whatever gods they previously worshipped couldn’t/wouldn’t help them during their time of need. Ironically, whichever “One” that the Church referred to didn’t help them either, but still gained power nonetheless. Since the divine magic of worship towards the One did not go to any deity, Grettania effectively became a fully secular state.   After the destruction of [Zaethopolis], the Grettanian Civil War began. Lords & Governors of their municipalities & states consolidated as much power as they could, raising militias from their subjects & convincing as many of the now-stranded federal soldiers to their sides as they could. Outer rim states had better options to trade with foreign countries, emigrate refugees or fortify in isolation, but inner rim states effectively had the choice of being conquerors or conquerees (since they were surrounded on all sides). This war raged for several years, becoming one of the many conflicts that made up the Perniam Wars.
