Soju Chapter 2: The Sojus Aid Insurrection

The gang finds the Incenses of Gaios, each taking one for themselves. Kenyuzu would be awake by this point, albeit with broken legs. However, the temple he trained at taught monks how to generate organic energy, allowing them to heal wounds at much faster speeds, so he bides his time while he heals his broken legs.   The gang can choose to interrogate Kenyuzu, and on a successful Intimidation, Persuasion, Deception, or other related skill check, will tell the gang about the people who hired them (DC of 15, 12 against female characters). A group of Banatarian emissaries and soldiers are attempting to incite insurrection against the Grettanian Empire by arming the people and planting other seeds of rebellion. Their agent, Captain Hyla, is an old military friend of Captain Hena, so the arrangement was to take out a military outpost and claim their weapons, then sell them to Captain Hyla when she arrived this evening. With this information, the gang would probably understand that when she gets here, she’ll be upset to find the entire gang dead and her weapons missing.   As this information is revealed, Aelsor will telepathically reach out to them, giving details on where to meet the buyer. The buyer has received the message and is heading towards the rendezvous point, so they can go to meet them now (deeper south). Once they do this, they’ll meet the buyer: a 40-man militia of orcs, half-orcs, and half-elves that wish to take Danarim for themselves. Amongst this militia, they’ll see a familiar face: Aelsor. If asked, he may reveal his slight deception: he, Gar’fak (the lead Orc) and (unnamed Half Orc) tell them that they are actually a small faction of rebellion against the Grettanian Empire, as they have treated non-humans or half-humans as second-class citizens since they came into power. Aelsor and the other leaders believe that by taking control of this trade port, they can cut off a major supply line for the Empire. However, it is clear that despite the lack of Imperial presence in the town, the mayor and city guard would not simply yield, both out of pride for themselves and fear of the empire’s retribution. So despite doing this for the good of the people, the group is clearly willing to take as many lives as are necessary.   With that, Aelsor admits that while he told the truth about his job (bookie for criminal gigs), he may have lied about the buyer being a “third party”. He offers up the sack of gold for the weapons, financed through the proceeds from his various gigs over time, ashe wanted to help finance the local economy, while also not tipping off the Empire city guard too early about invasion by attacking a military regiment directly. So when he heard about the Sake Squad’s recent purchase (though he did not know who hired them), he saw an opportunity and set up the gig to buy weapons rather than steal them outright.   This provides a slight dilemma for the group:   1. Sell the weapons (completing the job), knowing that they will be directing aiding an insurrection 2. Withhold the weapons, but risk conflict with the rebels.   I imagine that the group would be willing to sell, and assuming no higher value negotiations, Gar’fak will pay it and arm his men with the additional weapons, telling the group that he plans to attack at dusk.   After the party sells/chooses not to sell their score, they can return to Danarim and spend their riches as they please. At this point, I will give the party the choice of where in the world they’d like to travel, as from Danarim all options exist. However, they now have a time limit, as they know the town will be under siege by dusk. They can either:   1. Return the horse and carriage, perhaps buying their own? (Im partial to the mystery machine) 2. Return the horse and carriage, then perhaps buying a boat large enough to sail to Dalterra 3. Return the horse and carriage, then stealing a ship large enough to sail to Thatonis or Vulsemar (LONG journey, would definitely run into water creatures) 4. Not returning the horse and carriage by leaving Danarim, then dealing with bounty hunters that will come after them and know exactly where they are (not recommended)   Regardless of what they choose, there would be multiple factions in the resulting conflict:   1. The Rebels - led by Gar’fak (Orc) Aelsor (half elf) & (unnamed Half Orc) with 20 half orcs, 10 orcs, and 7 half elves, armed with the weapons specified (basic NPC stat blocks   2. The City Guard - 50 members, will defend the city to their best ability   3. Captain Hyla (Rouzhai Knight) & 10 soldiers - will assist the rebels if she understands why they are attacking, but will assist the City Guard if she doesn't understand/doesn't approve of their methods   4. The Soju Gang - can choose either side or stay out of it completely

The Game Events

The Gang moves the inventory from the vault to the cart, with Yuri staying behind to guard the score/prep Laeyara for the bag of holding. Meanwhile, the gang searches the vault, and after multiple failed attempts, finds a secret compartment. With some Sleight of Hand shenanigans, they open it to find 5 Incense of Gaios, each player taking one
  • Aelsor reached out telepathically to the group and gives them location of buyer
  • The gang interrogates Ken and learns what he knows via Friends , then unsuccessfully tries to kick him in the balls. He escapes in a flash
  • The gang heads to the buyer's rendevzous point, in which Yuri successfully embalms and stores Laeyara. They all short-rest and recover their spells, and they all healed fully
  • They arrive at the site and come to a plan: Aethel sneaks into a tree as lookout, Jorah takes the carriage and hides beyond the treeline, and the rest walk into the camp
  • Once they make it in, they see Aelsor and Gar'fak. Yuri negotiates a contract price $1,700, to which both parties agree.
  • Yuri wanders the camp while the rest go to deliver the weapons. Aethel stays in the tree. Yuri overhears the rebellion plan through Find Familiar
  • The reward is delivered, the Soju Gang getting $1,700 gp from the score (340 gp each)
