HW Chapter 2: Deus Ex Magicka

General Summary

Opening

• Nails found a mystery note with a riddle. He solved it, and then it turned into a fireball to light their path. They followed it
• They pursued the fireball out of their mountain cave, through the sky, then through another cloud layer straight down. They took 7 lightning each as they flew through the clouds, which released Vyrion from the summoning necklace (breaking it)
• They landed in a celestial meadow on the side of a mountain. As they explored it, they discovered a unicorn and a coatl. Both celestials were corrupted by an unseen source of demonic energy, and attacked the group.

Round 1

• Champp: Yams with Eldritch Blasts, hit two for 14 force damage and slows it by 10 ft. Holds his ground with trophy bared
• Enzo: Casts Ray of Frost for 15 cold damage and slowed by 10 ft.
• Unicorn: Cannot charge the Champp, so he rears and slams own to cast Entangle. It fails, as Champp is the champ
• Coatl: Tries to Constrict Nails, but misses.
• Nails: Eldritch Blasts for 16 force, but gets away from the Coatl. Coatl flies up into the sky

Round 2

• Champp: Smacks the unicorn's for 14 bludgeoning damage.
• Enzo: Casts Airlift to fly up, then casts Electrokinesis from his mech suit, missing. After this, the unicorn hooves him for 11 damage
• Unicorn: Attacks Champ for 17 damage.
• Coatl: Bites Nails for 11 piercing, doesn't poison him
• Nails: Eldritch Blasts for 10 force damage, far steps away. At the end, the unicorn Heals Self for 10 HP.
• Vyrion: Eldritch Blast for 13 force damage

Round 3

• Champp: Booming Blades the unicorn, but nat1s, then punches for 1 damage
• Enzo: Pulls out his crossbow and fires a Shock Enhanced bolt, but fails
• Unicorn: Attacks with hooves and horn for 5 piercing
• Coatl: Constricts Vyrion for 8 bludgeoning damage
• Nails: Arcana checks & Investigates to find out more about its composition, realizes the corruption may be hard to reverse. Eldritch Blasts the unicorn for 15 force. The unicorn Shimmering Shield (2 legendary atctions) and protects himself (and Champp, who holds on as he is speared on his horn) with +2 AC
• Vyrion: Break free of the grapple. Unicorn hits with a hoove, but fails

Round 4

• Champp: Casts Rolothein's Psychic Lance on the unicorn, kills it with an aneuryism. Kicks the horse
• Enzo: Fires the crossbow
• Coatl: Flies at Champp (missed opportunity attack from Vyrion), bites him for 7 piercing but does not poison
• Nails: Eldritch Blasts for 14 force damage, then teleports
• Vyrion: Eldritch Blasts for 13 force damage

Round 5

• Champp: Casts Arms of Hadar on the Coatl, who fails and takes 16 necrotic damage. An interdimensional tear forms in the creature's wounds. Punches his face for 1 bludgeoning
• Enzo: Misses both shots
• Coatl: Tries to constrict Champp, but fails
• Nails: Eldritch Blasts, all hit and 1 crits to splits the Coatl in two, leaving the interdimensional tear in its place

Aftermath

• Having willed an interdimensional portal into existence from his sheer desire to head home, Champp takes off, leaving the gun with his buddy cop friend. However, he brushes off Nails' emotional goodbye and pops through the portal. He is then forced to give his mission report to the panel of advisors that supervise him
• Meanwhile, Nails and Enzo use their combined enginuity to trap the energy from the collapsing portal into one of the energy gems chards (Enzo now has 4 empty shards and one shard filled with the portal's energy). Together, they noted how the energy seems to be a blend of Goultani, celestial & demonic essence.
• Nails fixes the gun, learns more about it, and fires a successful test shot through the meadow. Forces his team of Vyrion, Enzo & Oryn (who conveniently popped back up after the battle was over) to short rest, all while a unicorn corpse lays in the field near them

Rewards Granted

• 2,900 XP for killing the corrupted unicorn & coatl
• 1 Energy Shard filled with portal energy (the portal that resembles the one they are trying to close). Currently in Enzo's possession
• Turbine Pistol changed hands; Champp gave it to Nails
• Champp returned home to his handlers via a portal he willed into existence (thanks to a rare combination of celestial, demonic & hexblade magic with his indominable drive)
