Isle of Smiles
The Isle of Smiles is a parody of the Island of Misfit Toys (Rudolph). This functions as a for-profit prison run by ??? the Grin Warden & Dr. Cuddles. The guards are all the misfit, magical toys that were rejected from Wizard Santa’s toy line, sold at cost to the prison. Across the island, the smiling heads of former inmates lay frozen within the ground. On this island, magitech ideas can spur from the toys.
Darktree Woods - a forest spanning across the land outside the prison complex. Notably, all the trees and other plants absorb dark energy from the Cyregnorian atmosphere, rather than solar energy from the sun. This leads the forest to look very alien and disorienting to those not familiar to these plants, as the air around them is often distored and create mirages.
Smiling Lake - a frozen lake surrounding the island. When prisoners die (naturally or by execution), Dr. Cuddles ensures they are smiling in their moment of death, decapitates them, then places their heads beneath the surface of the lake as an omen.
Centi-Trains - Patrol the vast expanse of the icy lake. They have long, purple worm like bodies on hundreds of bug-like legs, with a train-shaped head. On the front of the train, a porcelain face with a subtle smile. When it spots prey, the smile grows slightly and the train begins moving in that direction, not stopping for any reason until it arrives. The train makes train noise and might sound its horn as it gets closer to instill fear, all while the smile grows. Finally, when it is within 50 ft, the smile turns big, sharp toothed & demonic as it opens its mouth, all the while the train horn screeches. It has the same stats as the purple worm, but without blindsight or the tail stinger. It can burrow through the ice as if it was burrowing through the ground. The tremorsense is tripled (180 ft) and it’s burrow speed is doubled (60 ft) if the train is on ice. Encountered in GB Chapter 25: The Isle of Smiles and loosely used the Purple Worm statblock.
Jack in the Box - Huge, animated Jack in the Box with 3 heads, each on its own distinct spring and all smiling maniacally. It lies in wait, then the familiar song fills the area. It takes a round for the box to prepare, but when it comes out, each head attacks with a Bite and a Headbutt. The box has a high AC. These boxes guard the important areas of the complex, such as the generator tower for the Grindark Peak illusion & the Daidrin Antenna. Uses a custom statblock.
Teddy Bears - live in the woods of the island, resembling teddy polar bears. They appear docile at first, but when they become aggressive or hungry, they turn demonic and vicious. Stuffing foams at their mouths as the bears attack their prey. Uses the Polar Bear statblock
Scaresnows - scattered across the woods of the island, scarecrow stats but snowmen. Act as sentry in the woods, in case any escaped inmates get past the Cracker Guard. Uses the Scarecrow statblock.
Dollmen - Medium humanoid dolls of various races, all with same stats. Can fight with Slam attacks or weapons, used as the interior prison guards. Uses a custom statblock.
Inhabitants
Prison Staff
Dr. Cuddles - Warden on the Isle of Smiles Penitentiary. Also functions as the prison psychiatrist. The mastermind behind the island’s operations, Dr. Cuddles is a sentient toy created at Santa’s Workshop before the Isle of Smiles was named. He was a defective doll, made during a particularly defective year of toys in Santa’s Workshop. Angered by the loss of viable product, Wizard Santa sent the entire batch of defective toys to an island in the center of a frozen lake. He then tasked the doll, which had a big smile sewn on its face, to “fix them” and enchanted it with animating magic, before throwing him through the portal and closing it. The doll spent years harnessing the island’s innate magic to improve some defective toys and animate the others, impressing Wizard Santa. As such, his island became the primary offloading center for defective toys from the Wizard Santa operation, fixing them to either send back to toy inventory or animate for company/labor on his island, named the Isle of Smiles after how happy being “fixed” made the doll. As Dr. Cuddles, he resembles a Frost Goliath with a big smile on his face. He is always calm and friendly to his patients/prisoners, as well as any being he interacts with no matter their mood. However, when he allows himself to be angry, his body enlarges from Medium to Large and he hulks the fuck out. He wield the Warden’s Fist, a maul that deals 3d6 bludgeoning damage. It can only be physically wielded by a Large or bigger creature, or a Medium creature with the Powerful Build trait. He also has the abilities of a Daidrin Barbarian. Wizard Santa then gained the idea of using the island and it’s animated toys to house Santa’s enemies/traitors as prisoners. The prison labor is used for two main purposes: 1. outsourced manufacturing for extra toy demand during the holiday season (not usually needed unless there are unforeseen productivity decreases at the North Pole) 2. Christmas weapon manufacturing (foreshadowing to the defenses of Santa’s Workshop and the St. Knights). Many prototypes/rejects here, which Dr. Cuddles has his workforce improve based on his designs. Since he has regular meetings with the North Pole, the Daidrin Antenna concealed by the bypass the teleportation field. This will be important loot for the party, should they wish to teleport in.Prisoners
Borzzle - Chazzle's long-lost younger brother, who was not taken with Chazzle's father on the raid that led to Chazzle's abandonment and his father's death. Staying behind with his mother and the tribe, Borzzle found himself on Wizard Santa's naughty list and, like children all over the world, was taken from his tribe as a boy. Like most kids in Wizard Santa's trade, he became a slave at Santa's Workshop, making toys until his late adolescence. After he started and nearly succeeded at a slave uprising, he was beaten by the St. Knights and sent to the Isle of Smiles prison as punishment. While usually locked away due to his past actions, he is occassionally put to work due to his musclular build, albeit under close watch. He remembers where his village is, but hasn't been back there in years and has no idea who, if anyone, is still there.Notable Landmarks/Features
Grindark Peak - a masterful illusion hiding the truth of the Isle of Smiles. While it resembles a small mountain jutting out of the island, it is truly an illusory barrier that covers the several towers & structures of the prison complex. The swirling storm at the peak is real, caused as dark energy emissions from the island's factories.Darktree Woods - a forest spanning across the land outside the prison complex. Notably, all the trees and other plants absorb dark energy from the Cyregnorian atmosphere, rather than solar energy from the sun. This leads the forest to look very alien and disorienting to those not familiar to these plants, as the air around them is often distored and create mirages.

Monsters
Cracker Guard - Large, animated nutcrackers wielding glaives, halberds & pikes. Can expel cold or fire damage from their mouths, with the nutcracker level extending out in the back. If in melee range, it can instead open its mouth in the same manner, then crunch it down on a creature. Similar physical stats to golems. They stand guard on the prison’s exterior portions, too big to walk inside efficiently. Encountered in GB Chapter 25: The Isle of Smiles , used an amalgation of the Clay & Stone Golem statblocksCenti-Trains - Patrol the vast expanse of the icy lake.
