Zorrinn's Citadel

The home of the Shieldbreaker dragonborn, Zorinn's Citadel sits on the floor of a fertile valley high on Shieldbreaker Mountain. The rich soil and a constant source of fresh water allow for seasonal agriculture just outside the citadel.

Government

Zorrinn's Citadel is led by a single chieftain. This chieftain is elected through nomination by a clan elder and then discussion and voting by the heads of each family in the clan. The chieftain holds great power, but is bound by certain laws and can be removed if the clan deems it appropriate. The responsibility of the chieftain is to oversee the protection of the citadel and ensure that all parts work efficiently to sustain the citadel without need for outside interference. This role is held from election until the chieftain either dies or is removed from the position due to negligence. Cyclic open council meetings occur and all members of the clan are eligible to attend and have input. Most clan responsibilities are delegated to specialists within the clan who have experience with particular aspects of citadel life such as agriculture, craftsmanship, or security.

Traditions

Silvermere Remembrance

Once a year in third winter, the Shieldbreaker clan takes a pause from labor for a day to remember the eruption of Klauth's Fury and the destruction of Silvermere. Although centuries have passed since the event, the clan still finds it important to remember such a tragedy. On this day, dragonborn throughout the citadel spend time with their families and friends, giving thanks for the gift of life that they were blessed with. The Shieldbreaker clan counts itself lucky to have escaped from the tragedy, and mourns the loss of those who could not escape. Thanks are also given for the mountain valley which the clan calls its home, in the belief that a divine being took pity on the refugees and reached out of the sky to carve out a beautiful place for them to settle in.

Feast of Vytos

The Shieldbreaker clan pays particular respects to Vytos, the deity of growth and agriculture. As a clan which focuses on agriculture as its main source of food, the Shieldbreakers honor Vytos in the hopes of having a blessed harvest. On the first full moon after the first week of first spring, the members of the clan leave the walls of the citadel and travel a short way to the farms lying across the valley floor. There, they offer their assistance to the clan's farmers in plowing fields, repairing fences, planting seeds, or any other chore which needs to be finished. In return, the farmers offer the other dragonborn a traditional meal made from the last of the root vegetables, dried meat, and other leftovers from the last harvest. At this meal, the chieftain offers a prayer up to Vytos expressing the clan's hope for a bountiful harvest.

Notable Locations

Council Circle

In the northern sector of the citadel is a wide stone terrace with a series of wooden benches stretching around the center. This is the Council Circle, and is the location of the cyclic council meetings of the Shieldbreaker clan. On each new moon, a fire is lit in the center of the terrace and members of the clan are welcome to join the council meetings and bring up important issues or questions they may have. At these meetings, the chieftain's performance is evaluated. If necessary, clan members can vote to depose the chieftain and elect a different dragonborn for the role. All input at these meetings is considered carefully by the chieftain and the clan elders, and adjustments are made as needed.
