Magelord Alastair Oakhand

Magelord Alastair Oakhand

Alastair was born during the final years of the Great Rebellion of Gaul. He witnessed his father become one of the Six, and heard stories of Dhara being lifted into the heavens to e d the Thousand Years of Silence. Alastair continued aging while his father slowed down with the boon from the risen Dhara. Alastair was crowned Magelord at 36 when his father Adonis mysteriously disappeared. The last conversation they had was his father explaining the danger in their blood, something that could prove dangerous to Alastair’s sister Indra, Adonis had been doing experimental magic that may have damaged his entire lineage.   As his sister and her husband spread the first spell book around the land, Alastair focussed on ruling. He sent court mages trained in the mountains to the many ruler ships beginning to form. He continued the work of his father on a stronghold for his people. Seventeen years had passed and his father returned, seeming to not have aged a day. Adonis had no recollection of where he had been and did not seek to usurp his throne. Unfortunately the dire warnings were also missing, Alastair prodded his father for information but Adonis could not recall. His father spent the next two years in his study, relearning magic from his own notes.   On a brisk night in 4E, 40 (515 BHM) the Oakhand family was having dinner and sharing stories with their guards and court mages. Adonis mostly stayed away up in his tower and Alastair hosted his sister Indra and her husband Vandavar Silverstaff. Their young son Shanek was sent to bed as the almost completed great hall became a place of merriment. Young Reinold tried to keep pace with his elders but at twenty one years old, he was outmatched and was helped to his chambers by a handmaiden named Tareysa. From the upper chambers of the tower, a bolt of lightning struck conduit as the rain began. The top of Ilkzinarth was where Adonis was experimenting on his blood and the magic it contained, already surged with Essence from birth, he was then gifted Ennobled Blood by Dhara in his ascension. Finally Adonis had medalled with time magic using his own being. He discovered on this night that his offspring had a higher risk of a dangerous concoction of wild magic inside them. He theorized that as his heirs numerated, they would become increasingly less stable. The men were never as potent with magical ability as the woman of the mountains, this is how it had always been. His magic was dangerous but his daughter’s was deadly.   As the night progressed and the wine was spilled between the couples. Indra and Vandavar alongside her brother Alastair and his lady Rayisa had much to talk about from Indra’s journey spreading their first version of the spell book a younger Vandavar wrote alongside Adonis, before he disappeared.   Adonis hurried down from his tower to find his children in the incomplete hall of his castle, he stormed in as thunder struck. His children and their partners were shocked to see him coherent and lucid. He quickly asked questions directed at Indra, her husband tried to calm his former mentor down. The words and accusations he said seemed random and rambling but Indra calmed her father and said she understood. One symptom he spouted was that of blue fingernails. She took off her elbow length silk gloves to reveal the tips of her fingers down to the knuckle were stained blue like ink. When pressed how long, she revealed it started a few weeks back as she travelled home from her journey. Indra began to feel unwell, she had been fighting a flu that her husband has been trying to narrow down the cause. She fell to the ground as her blueish fingertips begin to glow. Indra's dark hark begins to turn tints of blue as her skin cracks and energy begins pouring out of her, none of the family around her could reach her as she screamed loud enough to wake the whole mountain kingdom. The room itself began to shake as Adonis tires to activate one of his machines, a battery of sorts trying to replicate the Phylactery given to him by Dhara. He was seeking to dispel the Essence coming out of his daughter to save her. The castle shook and the slightly sobered up Reynold grabbed the young Shanek Silverstaff and escaped along with others that lived within castle. Alastair tried to grab his sister but he was blasted out of the window, breaking his back as he landed on the hard cobblestone below. Vandavar and Adonis could not solve the problem in time, as Indra exploded in blue fire and lightning, Vandavar was holding his wife tightly and Adonis whispers an incantation into his Phylactery before seemingly all three were incinerated by Indra's Essence burst. All that remained in the destroyed throne room was the phylactery in the hands of an untoched Adonis Oakhand and the large crystal that Adonis tried to use to save his daughter. Guards carried Alastair up to the throne room to find his father holding a device that seemingly shielded himself from the blast.   He carried the burden of a powerful lineage laced with unpredictable magic. Stern and resolute, he watched his father, Adonis, vanish and then return without contesting his title. Alastair's strength, however, could not shield him from the grief and chaos that followed the death of his sister Indra in a devastating magical explosion, leaving him physically broken and emotionally scarred. His drive for control over the dangerous essence within his bloodline led him to create the chilling law that required the death of any child born after the firstborn son. Their lineage was that of immense power but second children or daughters would be a recipe for cataclysm, just like the tragic loss of Indra
