Battle of Adiran and Fall of Ios

The Conflict

Prelude

After Ios failed in the Battle of Sharia, the Iosians pulled back all the way to the mainland of Ios, starved of supplies. Amica bombers ripped apart key Ios cities from making tanks and other weapons, so the Iosians were in quite a predicament before the battle of Adiran.

Deployment

Ios had around 300,000 men initially, but this number increased by a large amount later in the battle, closer to a million after the battle.   All the combined forces in the Fall of Ios were in the millions.

Battlefield

The battlefield for both occurrences were made up of large cities and farmland.

The Engagement

First, SP forces had to get ahold of a important checkpoint to act as a supply line checkpoint, so they attempted to gain air superiority near the Nourthen Ostren-Ios border, this plan was made by a general named Issuves. However, this plan had "issues". The weather during the scheduled air raids were abysmal, with thick clouds, therefore radar could spot little to no AA positions or other aircraft, so 60% of the sent aircraft were shot down. Ceshal ground forces mostly cleared out defenses on the border with their huge arsenal of tanks, and Ceshal tanks made up most of the attacking force since Ceshal could afford to lose them more than any other nation could. Ubrain didn't really play a big roll at the start, since most of them were still on the Bultan front.   Raph had lost almost all hope, with his health deteriorating. His last ditch defensive would start, as he left most of the decisions up to his generals. General Uqu Root had decided to put is troops in deep entrenchments, and also started assigning spies to spy on the Amica powers. Lower command officers also made their soldiers plant mines, some of which are still not detonated today. -A downed turret position in a shelled building-
Also, the FI-1 was a grenade launcher that was the first portable weapon to be able to fire at a constant rate of fire. These could be placed in places as small as a foxhole, and could take out an entire platoon with a few shots, making a deadly weapon that the Iosians used extensively during the rush for Adiran.   Meanwhile, Root called for most of the Ostor and Athium POWs to fight for Ios, although many saw it as sacrifice for than anything, as Root often threw waves of them, promising them to be able to go home if they survive the charge, but they often had no food to get back home.   -Iosians behind a dirt mound, June 11th 1913-
The SP and Ceshal forces moved into Iosian territory, and the Adiran was in sight. Adiran is a city just north of the Gold Sea, to the west. Even though the Amica forces were moving steadily, they did so with massive casualties especially the SP. The battle of Gelxenburg claimed 100,000 casualties on the first 4 days, with the human waves of POWs particularly strong in this battle.   On the west side of things, the stalemate of the Zabalrish front had came to a halt, when Zabalar troops invaded Pagrye and Troze, and completed the invasion 13 weeks later, with 600,000 POWs captured. Troze actually fought with fierce resistance during the invasion, based on it's mostly religious background. Her soldiers had an equivalent of a "samurai code" to follow, and once Zabalar and Kenton troops reached the capital, the Battle of Feills saw heavy casualties for both sides, lasting 2 weeks, and ending on August 28th 1913.   Once that was over with, Cospos sent 250,000 troops to support Zabalar in invading the entirety of west Ios, a feat that many say would be impossible due to the Oxolf mountain range, a 800 mile chain of mountains in west Ios, which Ios takes advantage of in the invasion.   -Durhan troops pass by a Ostren mortar crew, Setember 14th 1913-
On the east, the Pobaranian Empire's massive army of 15 million men flew 100,000 over to East Ios to help the defensive effort. This was bad news for the advancing army, and it was this (among other social causes) that actually decided that Kenton started enforcing tougher conscription laws, bringing in more men.   With the front getting more and more grueling, the new SP commander Eclairé Uiosa ordered to put Ceshal troops in reserve, and the SP to adopt a new strategy of hit and run tactics. He also deployed a number of deception tactics, which worked incredibly well against Ios, since they've been fighting a war of attrition for many months.   But then, the Ceshal general Raua Uagi, now commanding the front, ordered to stop advancing, and started a 7,000 rocket artillery bombardment 2 days later, in a straight line right in the direction of Adiran, now 20 miles out. They punched through the remaining land, and arrived at Adiran, and the 4 month long battle started.   -Iosian supply line retreating west, August 1st 1913-
Meanwhile on the west, the Joint forces charged on into the Oxolf mountains, and found that it is relatively easy to move through the mountains because almost all of the mountains had trails and small flat lands to set up a camp - but the Iosians would not make it easy for them. The Iosians blew up holes and caverns inside the mountains to set up strategic points and also rigged up mines to cause landslides while the Zabalar forces moved through the mountains.   Amica bombing also caused avalanches and also killed civilians in the process, so troops had to clear out caverns and trenches one by one, causing heavy casualties. The Battle of Gaviric was fought 11,000 feet in the air, and some troops recalled seeing wounded men fall down the side of the mountain, never to be seen again through the thick fog.   The mountain troops scaled the hills by a rope or helicopter, and once on a peak, they could lay down artillery fire or grenades from high above, without the victims knowing where it came from. The 2 month advance through the Oxolf mountains claimed 370,000 lives on both sides.   -Zabalarish troops moving to a camp in Gaviric, June 6th 1913-
Once that meat grinder was finished, the Zabalar troops advanced quickly through the west, and also liberated Athium and Ostor with little trouble. Once this happened, the emperor demanded that the Pobaranians in Ios be transported back to Bengal, but it was too late. Both armies were now trapped, and their last stand would be the Battle of Adiran.   Both joint forces met at Adiran, and by this time, over 800,000 Iosians and Pobaranians were trapped inside Adiran, and both forces closed in from all sides. A second "Battle of Cino" occurred, with brutal ubran warfare, but this time it was a bit different.   Bitter fighting raged for every ruin, street, factory, house, basement, and staircase. Even the sewers were the sites of firefights. The Battke of Cino included these horrors, but fierce air battles led to a Kusiogo smashing into the Solace Tower, a 900 ft building collapse, killing an estimated 2,000 civilians and many more soldiers in the building. Civilians also played a big part in the war, with a civilian uprising going against the Amica troops in the city, but the uprising only lasted 12 days.   -SP troops resting inside some random dudes house-
Following the uprising, SP and Ceshal soldiers committed atrocities against civilians, and this became known as the Rape of Adiran. The 7th SP army reportedly rounded up over 70 civilians (and children) and executed them in a firing squad formation. SP command mostly glazed over the events, but reports suggest most generals did not oppose the executions.   Buildings had to be cleared room by room through the bombed-out debris of residential neighborhoods, office blocks, basements and apartment high-rises and even skyscrapers, but most of the time they were simply bombed and strafed to no end, until they collapsed. The Joint forces were making moves on Adiran, and despite taking heavy casualties around every city block, they had taken 40% of the city in two weeks.   -Zabalairsh soldiers about to breach a building-
On September 2nd, both joint forces reached the centre block of Adiran, and the metropolis area. This battle had now taken a scale of warfare never before seen. In the most developed areas, boots on the ground combat was considered suicide due to the amount of tall buildings that soldiers could easily hide in. Air combat was also extremely difficult with high rise buildings blocking most of the cockpits view.   A stalemate had plagued the battle, but the Iosian troops were incredibly low in morale, and were also devoid of supplies and food. Since ground forces in the city had posed a huge threat, helicopters were used to pick up surrendered soldiers. On October 5th 1913, the General Uqu Root surrendered after his bunker was found, and died a few hours later due to lead poisoning, the cause of which is still not known, but was probably a suicide.   After the battle, the city was reduced to rubble, and only skyscrapers stood after the brutal battle. "Two nations down, one to go." said Virtu, a Kenton General.   -Zabalarish soldiers attempt to calm a shell-shocked civilian-

Belligerents

Strength

The Iosian Military was a force to be reckoned with in World War One in many occasions. They were properly trained, with more than sufficient military power, until they ran out of supplies in 1913.

Casualties

Around 500,000 dead or wounded (rough estimate)

Objectives

To defend the last stand against Amica forces.
Steel Powers

Led by

Strength

The Steel Powers were composed of Whena, Kena and Ostren. They were very strong after they made many machines of war (tanks, aircraft, land frigates, etc) since their metal industry was powerful. They also had specialized soldiers to fight in cold weather against the Ios troops.

Casualties

610,000 dead or wounded

Objectives

To attack the mainland of Ios
Ceshal + Ubrain

Led by

Strength

Ceshal was a strong combatant in WW2, and had a very strong air force to support their troops. They also had very good training for their troops and special forces.

Casualties

220,000 dead or wounded

Objectives

To attack the mainland of Ios
Zabalar+Kenton

Led by

Strength

The combined strength of these nations was a strong contender against the exhausted Iosian soldiers, and Cosposian aircraft also helped them tremendously.

Casualties

635,000 dead or wounded

Objectives

To meet up with Ceshal and SP forces after the city is captured.
