Ellie is the surviving head of a biodroid
Mind from the
Sanctum of the Great Intelligence. At least, so she and
Katerina Vezahn claim.
Although Ellie has memories of having lived a full life of approximately 20 years, she has actually only lived a few months. Her memories are a fiction created by the Masterminds at the Sanctum. This is according to Vezahn. Ellie says she doesn't quite understand, but she accepts what "Katie" has told her. She certainly can't deny that she isn't human like she believed before meeting Vezahn and having her body disintegrated.
Existing only as a head for a while, Ellie was completely immobile and required others to carry her in order to move. Vezahn promised to have some sort of device manufactured to provide Ellie with mobility, but had not done so at the time Ellie last saw her. Ellie also had to spend a couple hours every day immersed in a special nutrient solution to provide the organic parts of her head nutrition since she is no longer capable of eating and digesting.
Vezahn left Ellie in the care of
Grigory Salmad while she continues investigations into the Sanctum and the Great Intelligence. Vezahn and Salmad agreed that Ellie should be kept out of sight, even though that means many more will doubt Vezahn's account of her experiences.
More recently, Salmad has passed on care of Ellie to the group made of
Dante Whitbinder,
James Warde,
Rolanda Toledo,
Ackers,
R.A.N.C.H.E.R. , and
Dwin Mahad. The group has upgraded Ellie with a hover system to provide her mobility, and a pair of mechanical manipulators to allow her to pick up, carry, and otherwise manipulate objects. They have also acquired an android body that they hope to attach Ellie to in order to provide her with full mobility once more. However, their principal mechanic, Dwin, is still trying to learn how to integrate Ellies biomechanical neurolgical system with the fully mechanical android body.

History
According to Katerina, Ellie (whom the Masterminds designate LE00023B) was designed to be the perfect romantic/sexual match for Katerina, but the Masterminds failed to achieve this. According to Ellie, both she and Katerina are madly in love. Katerina claims otherwise. Ellie claims that Katerina only claims that in order to maintain dramatic tension in the account Katerina published about her experiences at the Sanctum of the Great Intelligence.
Although Katerina denies a love match between them, she does acknowledge Ellie as a friend. She also feels responsible for Ellie's lack of a body and feels it her responsibility to look after the biodroid.
Nicknames & Petnames
Ellie refers to Katerina as Katie, despite the fact that Katerina hates being called that and has asked Ellie not to on multiple occasions. However, it appears Ellie does this due to some sort of core programming that she cannot override. Katerina reluctantly accepts this, though never fails to remind Ellie that she doesn't like the name.
