Sisters of the Dragon
Les soeurs de la dragonne (Sisters of the Dragon) are a militant order of nuns dedicated to the teachings of Jeanne d'Arc (Joan of Arc), and through those teachings, to God. Although they are a militant order, the Sisters don't tend to field armies of their own. They don't have the numbers for that. Instead, they send individual members to be advisors and officers for allied militaries, such as the Peace Brigade.
Individual nuns are trained in theology, medicine, marksmanship, and often numerous types of weapons. They are both talented field medics and deadly combatants.
Mythology & Lore
Long ago, in the mists of Pre-War times, the peaceful people of Frank came under attack from the Angels, vicious winged people from an island called Brighton who fed on human beings. The Angels were relentless in their advance, and it looked as if the French would be wiped from the face of the world.
In this war-torn world, there lived a young woman named Jeanne. When she was a young child, Jeanne began to talk to God. And God talked back, giving her guidance and instruction, grooming her to fight back against the Angels and lead the Franks to victory. When her training was complete, she set out to meet her destiny. But the people would not believe her. They thought her crazed. Why should they follow a teenage girl? The Angels were powerful and would slaughter her and everyone who followed her.
Jeanne's faith was put to the test when her own people rebuffed her time and time again. But God continued to speak to her and guide her. Eventually, this guidance led her to the great dragon, Lucy, last of her kind. The full story of Jeanne's encounter and eventual friendship with Lucy is found in the Sisters' prized tome, Jeanne et la dragonne.
There came a time when the Angels launched another attack on the Franks, this one led by one of their most feared generals, Santa Gorge. Just as the Franks thought all was lost, Jeanne arrived, riding on the back of Lucy. After burning much of the Angels' army, they faced off against Santa Gorge himself. Santa Gorge had killed many dragons before, and was the reason Lucy was the last of her kind. It was a terrible battle that lasted hours into the night. But in the end, Jeanne and Lucy stood victorious over the body of Santa Gorge.
After this, the Franks accepted what Jeanne told them of their God. She went on to lead the Franks in numerous successful battles against the Angels. Although she and Lucy eventually died at the hands of the Angels, it was not until she had driven every last Angel from Frank and had taken the fight to Brighton itself.
Divine Origins
The Sisters of the Dragon were formed a little over a century ago by a young nun who was fascinated by tales she had heard of Joan of Arc. She believed that the Church should have an order dedicated to the praise of this great, hallowed individual, so she petitioned the Pope to found such an order. The Pope conferred with her advisors and granted the petition.
Out of her mouth go burning torches;
Sparks of fire leap forth.
Out of her nostrils smoke goes forth
As from a boiling pot and burning rushes.
Her breath kindles coals,
and a flame goes forth from her mouth.

The Sisters of the Dragon and the Peace Brigade have similar goals and frequently work together to achieve them. The Sisters do not have the numbers of the Peace Brigade, but their individual members are often more highly trained than the rank-and-file members of the Peace Brigade. As such, the Sisters will often send one or two of their number to serve as religious and tactical advisors as well as officers to Peace Brigade groups. Some Peace Brigade groups are less accepting than others of Sisters of the Dragon, but for the most part welcome the nuns' expertise.
In return, Peace Brigade units that accept the nuns' counsel provide some monetary support to the Sisters' central cathedral in Peri.
