A.S.S.: The Bitter Dregs
General Summary
Wherein the Arboreal Security Service delves deep into the Carydam Catacombs and deposes a tyrant
To the Catacombs
Our eco-warriors found themselves summoned for a new job. It seems that Captain Bones has need of their services and asked them to meet him in his "home office" in the Catacombs. This immediately put Lenny on the defensive, because, as a loyal follower of Carida and Godsmount, you do NOT TALK about the Catacombs. Everything is fine down there! Nothing is Displaced! And also nothing is randomly appearing! STOP ASKING QUESTIONS. This approach would color her entire experience with this particular job. Anyway, Captain Bones' mission did not, surprisingly, revolve around bones. Instead, he asked them to venture deep into the Catacombs until it the distinction between the Catacombs and the Abiding Black is muddled. There, they'll find a settlement called The Dregs. They should seek out Olagwyn, who has a job for them. It probably has something to do with the "Baron" of the Dregs, a man called Mustruk. Captain Bones, who considers himself the only Baron of these here parts, is offended by this petty tyrant and hopes our heroes can help Olagwyn with her resistance to his reign. The Arbos took their leave of the Captain and headed to the Dregs, fighting with some ghosts (and saving a dragon's emissary) and doing some light trading with a myconid caravan along the way. Finally, they reached The Dregs and Olagwyn, but not before Lenny nearly gave up their mission to some of Mustruk's guards. It seems that Olagwyn did, indeed, need their help to deal with this Baron. If they could somehow get their hands the Cup of Caesis, which Mustruk keeps on his person, his followers would lose heart and abandon him. That's the hope anyway. She needs our adventurers to assist with that. She proposed that our eco-warriors infiltrate his compound and offered to stage an uprising to help with this. A hasty plan was plotted--with both Lenny and Aletide hiding in ale barrels driven by slug-cart and escorted by Haemic--while Olagwyn and her followers caused a riot in the town itself. This plan actually went off quite well, with the Arbos easily gaining access to Mustruk's compound and laying waste to his more ardent followers. Then they confronted the "Baron" himself, who enlarged himself (and his cup) and a bloody battle ensued. A.S.S. emerged victorious, and topped both the "Baron" and his cup of power. The townsfolk of The Dregs did the rest, securing the town from the tyranny of his followers, but at a human cost. Olagwyn was grateful to the Arbos and gave them each 150 gold for their aid. The Dregs is now, once again, free to operate how it sees fit. With that, our heroes returned to the surface and to A.S.S. HQ to await another job.And That's Where We Left It
