Bari Historical Society

Established in 801 AC, just two decades after the founding of Awa Harbor, the Bari Historical Society has always intended to celebrate, preserve, and study the long and storied history of the Drembari Isles. Over the years, the organization's mission expanded, as continued research only led them to make connections with the other societies and histories of Gavros and expand their scope.   When coupled with the Bari drive for adventure, this approach earned many BHS scholars a reputation for being quite "hands on" with their fieldwork. Though this lack of cohesive direction turned away many scholars, the BHS attracted a certain type of explorer: those with an insatiable wanderlust and intense passion for niche areas of study. Consequently, many BHS scholars often find themselves becoming part of the histories they study.

The Vastmother Accords

The Bari Historical Society was founded in 801 AC by adventurers Zilfen Ordyana and Snuz Kevin-Kevin. Back then, the Isles had a much more competitive and cutthroat relationship with each other. There was no demand for any sort of centralized collection of Drembari History when Islers were too focused on being "more Bari" than others. When Holapo, Zilfen's hometown, fell to the Underking's legions when they were denied aid from their neighbors, the scholar petitioned the help of his friend Snuz and the isle-spanning Kevin-Kevin shipping operation. Together, they raced about the Isles following clues to the location of the fabled Vastmother Accords, an ancient-old treaty signed by the original founders of the Isles that bound their fates together as Children of the Vast. After the pair finally uncovered the Accords and the treacherous plot behind its disappearance, even the most acerbic Waterspeakers could not argue against these authenticated documents. The united fleets of the Drembari Isles quickly converged on the Underking's forces at Holapo and drove them back beneath the waves.   Afterward, Zilfen and Snuz established the Bari Historical Society and made it their mission to preserve Bari artifacts like the Vastmother Accords to prevent such discord from ever happening again.

The Culling of Vo'ku'a

The BHS also played a significant role in the defeat of Vo'ku'a the Many-Fingered in 1080 AC. Then-scholar Marvon Mosswater, much like his predecessors, worked tirelessly to unite the Waterspeakers of the Isles against a common threat. He helped organize Otuna's Favor to facilitate the recovery of the god-slaying Instrument and even spent time in the field with the Vastblasters. It is rumored that he suffered a grevious wound on these adventures, but none could say specifically.   Marvon Mosswater secured the title of Director just a few years after his involvement with the VastBlasters.

The Varduran Expedition

Under Director Mosswater, the BHS spent the next 30 years slowly expanding its collection of Varduran artifacts and scholars. In fact, anyone who had ever written anything of significance about the isolationist peoples would have likely been offered a position at the Bari Historical Society. So, when Chaus Echwink decided to revive his father's dream, it was not surprising that the BHS tied their fate to that of Echwink Expeditions and whatever might happen on Vardura.   The BHS became an official patron of the Second Echwink Expedition to Vardura in 1101 AC, nearly 300 years to the date after its founding.
