Chilopodora Centipedinius
The legend of Chilopodora Centipedinius has never before been remembered by so few. In truth, the walls upon which the story of Chilo Cen are scrawled lie miles beneath the eyes of any creature that could even attempt to translate them and have done so for centuries. Just as most things that occur in the Unknown Era, the full tale of Chilopodora Centipedinius will likely stay in the Unknown Era.
Still, many of New Carydam's storytellers and culturekeepers, like that of the verbose Catarina and mysterious Venomhead, purport to hold knowledge of these lost tales, however exaggerated they may be in their modern interpretations.
What we know is that Chilo Cen was a pariah. She was not intended to be such, but her creation, by that of an ambitious god or hubristic mortal, was heralded as a sign of woe and pain as much of joy and community. Chilo was born of two ancient peoples in an attempt to connect their disparate worlds to create peace and prosperity. Half Carydamian and half Centepedial, Chilo Cen bore a visage of an insectile humanoid and could walk within both worlds. Some claim Chilo was created by the Carydams to establish communication with the mysterious giant centipedes that constantly crawled and tunneled beneath them. Others claim that Chilo was sent by the centipedes to establish peaceful and non-threatening relations with the surface dwellers. Other accounts claim Chilo was created by a god to unite the two peoples against a great evil, but ultimately failed. Whatever the intention. Chilo would ultimately become of victim of those opposed to her existence.
After a brief period of shaky interactions and declarations of peace between the Carydamians and Centipedians, Chilo found herself attacked by dissenters and killed. Her body was torn asunder and her parts deliberately separated in order to ensure her total annihilation. No records exist of what happened between the two peoples following her murder, but that is likely because none were made.
Today, the name "Chilo Cen" is often uttered as a curse or exclamation, but only among older and more traditional cultures, like the people of Godsmount. Few who use the phrase know of its origins and those that claim to are likely liars. As for Chilo's remains, only rumors of their recovery exist. Those that claim to have discovered or come into contact with one of these relics say that they radiate with a sickly green light and are scalding hot to the touch, but that those that can bear to carry them may find themselves in possession of a very powerful and ancient artifact.
