Osborn Moonspark

The nobles living in The Free Cities of Marlock typically want for nothing. The same went for Osborn Moonspark, a lightfoot hafling, until the day Displacement sent him to an abyssal plane.   As a child, whenever Osborn broke the law, his well-to-do parents bailed him out. He proudly wore his family crest, a moon on fire, to promote his privilege to the unwashed masses. His family has deep ties with a well-regarded Vedalken family: Hypatia, Kosi, and Edill. All three tutored young Osborn to be well-read, but academic life never stuck. Osborn's always been a bit more rough and tumble, anyway.   One sleepless night, Osborn suffered waking nightmares of flames, brimstone, and the moon colliding with the the material plane. The next thing he knew, he was in a strange and dangerous land. His bed, home, and family were long gone.   Osborn awoke to the shrieks and screams of demonic figures, but not the type he learned about in school. At first desolate, this abyssal-seeming plane's terrain changed greatly with each passing day. Some mornings he awoke in a lush forest. Before the next day ended, the landscape sometimes morphed into an inhospitable ice world brimming with blizzards. Plants, people, objects, and creatures appeared, then disappeared. Randomness was the only constant. One can only imagine what that did to Osborn's mind and emotional state.   Eventually, these terrains collided and became permanently fused together. In this post-modern hellscape, palm trees grew from frozen mountaintops. Carnivorous, piranha-like fish with large, leathery wings patrolled the skies. Demonic mammals and other horrors hunted him during his lonely nights.   He survived by learning when to hide and when to fight, often taking his foes by surprise. Though, Osborn lost an eye during a particularly terrifying fight with a Yochlol-Roper hybrid. He allied with other adventurers who were Displaced in this nightmarish place, but friendship always rotted into disillusionment. While Osborn wanted to maintain real and lasting friendships, anyone he met could blink away at any moment—and they did.   Osborn's experiences attuned his body and instincts to Displacement—more than others. Years of surviving in this unknowable, evolving realm hardened his resolve and gave him the ability to time and anticipate Displacement events.

After ten years of struggling on his own, he "blinked" back into his home. Soon after, he learned that his beloved parents Wilbur and Rosara had passed away—some say due to endless grief—but Osborn's younger sister Nedara, who remained caretaker of their estate, has a few leads on what really caused their deaths. And she wants to wait for Osborn to recover from his current depressed state before looping him into her plans for revenge.   One night, Osborn was attacked by a few particularly vicious and muscle-bound Prime Time gang members. During the brawl, he heard whispers of people as they were being displaced from plane to plane. They told him where to hide and the optimal way to unleash his attacks.   After mortally wounding two members, a third was ready to strike Osborn when—out of nowhere—a displaced aboleth tendril appeared through the gang member's body, exploding the jacked bro's guts, bones, and muscles all over the alley. Just as soon as the tendril arrived, it vanished. Since this fight, Osborn's been honing this power, and can sometimes summon these Displacement-linked phenomena to harm his enemies.   Little did he know, but a young street urchin named Roo Rainhorn witnessed the fracas, and desperately wants Osborn to teach him how to be deadlier with his daggers and knives.   Despite his lengthy absence, he rarely talks about his Displacement with Nedara. He's been meaning to share his knowledge about Displacement with Hypatia, but can't seem to find her. According to Kosi, it's been difficult to track her daughter down, ever since she joined The Interdimensional Blinkerton Detective Agency. Hypatia only seems to stop by Kosi's labratory whenever she needs alchemical flasks.   As a defense mechanism, Osborn often hears veiled insults and threats in every word addressed to him, which triggers a deep well of anger for the life he was forced to abandon, and the painful isolation he was meant to endure.   Artwork by Sergio Cosmai
