Republic of Estrelonia
The Republic of Estrelonia has its history in the colony of Nueva Astunia. The lands now occupied by the republic were first settled by Astunian colonists in 1608. Gradually more colonies were raised on the fertile coast and from there the colony slowly started expanding land inward. The colonies soon got the joined name of Nueva Astunia.
Aside from the natural challenges colonists faces, they soon started encountering native locals. While both cultures saw opportunities of trade in their encounter, there was significant tension and distrust between the colonists and natives. By the mid 17th century the amount of violent encounters got to a point where the government of Astunia officially adopted an approach of expulsion or eradication of the native locals. This led to even more hostile conflict that only decreased when the Winona Union was formed. Nowadays only smaller bands of natives still fight to claim their original lands.
In the first half of the 18th century the colonies grew significantly and underwent serious development, primarily along the coast lines. While still primarily inhabited by originally Astunian colonists, Nuevo Astunia increasingly became a meltingpot of Aldion cultures. It also saw an increasing demand for self-government, something the monarchy back in Aldion looked unfavourable upon. The dissatisfaction of being government from afar led to small opposition and conflict arising in the colonies, that eventually led to a full on war for independence in 1798.
Though negotiations to end the conflict were attempted in 1805, the war continued until 1809 when finally the colonies managed to drive out the Astunian military forces. It took until 1811 for the Astunian monarchy to submit defeat and officially grant the new Republic of Estrelonia its independence.
The relative high degree of freedom attracted many new settlers, which during the 19th century led to an astounding increase in investment in and development of the nation. New technologies have turned the Republic of Estrelonia into a real powerhouse, while also granting increasing success in land inward expansion.
While still partially unincorporated and wild, the Western plains of Estrelonia are slowly but steadily incorporated into the nation. Tension is brewing with the Imperial Federation of Novaris however, now that the border of both nations are increasingly approaching and touching each other.
