Session 1 - 31.01.2021 - Mine
It’s been a week since I arrived in this strange desert land. I decided the best way to find out further information on where and what might have happened to me to be to head into the nearest town. I stumbled into this town - Ragged Bend and found the nearest inn I could. A real shithole but it worked, reading the notice boards around a lot seemed to be assigned by a group called The Black Claw. I figured trying to get in with them there would be a good way to get information.
I got talking to a few of the other patrons and it seems like other people had the same idea for joining The Black Claw. They seem an eclectic bunch but most seem to have their heads on their shoulders so far. We picked up a bounty for clearing a nearby mine of some oozes. Can’t say I’ve ever fought an ooze before - they sound pretty harmless to me.
The head of The Black Claw comes into the tavern - another Dragonborn! A woman named Cookie? Seems a bit odd but I’m not saying anything… She tells us that the mission is from some woman - Zeraphina Sapphire-Whistle. She bought the mine for undervalue due to this ooze problem. Our job is to clear it and we get 20G each and access to the chapter house in town.
She tells us that the mine is East out of town, follow the signposts for Steeple Top. We start to head out along the dusty roads, with myself taking the lead due to my incredible survival skills.
On our way we came across two humans and a dwarf, they were miners who had abandoned it following the ooze takeover. One named Eric says he’d give us a gold if we could get another miner’s bracelet - Kevin he said his name was. Doesn’t sound worth our time if I’m honest and he said an ooze fell on the guy so I doubt there’s much left.
The dwarf was a bit of a bitch if I’m being honest - with a name like Debbie Dirtrich it didn’t surprise me. Kept going on about her undergarments.
We headed on to the mine and found a small campsite outside, with a chest. Talia appearing to be some kind of Klepto sprung into action and quickly got what was coming to her when she found out the chest was trapped… There were some boring journal entries from what I heard Tosl saying. Realising this was not really what we came here to do I decided we should move on.
Descending into the mine we find an elevator shaft and descend. On the way down Zug and Tosl get talking about how elevators work and Zug seems to understand more than he lets on!
We came across some strangely wet stone, Urbain taking a closer look figured out it was actually one of the oozes. For future reference - don’t trust wet stones in dry places.
We quickly dispatch of the thing but I notice that it seems to slowly dissolve non-magical items that come into contact with it.
We delve deeper into the mine and dispatch of another couple of oozes, searching around we find some papers and water/alcohol barrels. Again finding out who amongst us has a penchant for thievery (admittedly I do take a few railroad spikes for forging purposes, but it’s for the betterment of the group in my mind).
Some silly fighting in the group breaks out when Zug accidentally throws a rock at Urbain. Urbain doesn’t take too kindly to this and appears to start to cast something. I’d rather not get into a fight when from what I can tell each of us could kill one another with one blow… Of the two I hadn’t thought Urbain to be the one that needed anger management if I’m honest.
We go deeper again and find another opening and lo and behold, more oozes. Again all working together we dispatch them without much trouble. It appears Zug hasn’t noticed that the oozes are damaging his sword every time he uses it, though I’m not sure if he has much else he could do against them - he doesn’t appear to be a magic user of any kind.
After the fight, I bring Zug’s attention to the slowly dissolving sword he’s holding. He doesn’t appear too thrilled about it and discards it whilst shouting what I assumed to be its name “Samanthargh?”. I pick it up - maybe I can do something with this for him, he seemed very attached to it and I can’t imagine throwing away something I named.
We find Kevin - all of his metallic items dissolved away but very clearly dead. There’s a strange opening in the wall ahead glowing slightly purple. Looking in we find jars embedded in the floor which it appears the oozes were being kept in, for storage or protection I do not know.
Zug has a fight with a door with rocks holding it closed on the other side. I think he realised eventually.
We can’t seem to find anything else of interest or note at the bottom of the mine so head back to town. We turn the contract in and get our 20 gold pieces each - not a bad going rate to be honest. This could be pretty lucrative!
