Order of the White Lotus
The Order of the White Lotus, is an ancient society that transcends the boundaries of the nations, seeking philosophy, beauty, truth, and justice. They are devoted to the sharing of ancient knowledge across national and political divides. The Order takes no part in the war of nations. The members hold no titles or lands and are forbidden to marry. They also concern themselves with the task of finding, training, and protecting each new White Lotus Page. Each member may choose their own page during their travels and train them as they see fit. To become a Knight of the Order the Page must pass a series of test at the White Lotus Keep.
The members of the order are vagabonds. They travel the kingdoms bringing wisdom and justice to all. They will help anyone equally. Noble titles mean nothing to them. Many Kingdoms tolerate them and some even respect them. The Order has no temple or shrines. They have an old Malazan Keep on an island that serves as their headquarters. They have no official uniform. They wear only a brooch with the White Lotus sigil.
There are ten Grand Lotuses. Three Grand Lotuses must remain at the keep at all time for counsel, trails and to vote on any problem that may arise. Grand Lotuses are not chosen for their martial prowess but for their wisdom and sense of justice.
The Knights are given journals upon their knighthood. They are to write in it every day and be completely honest. If a Knight dies his journal MUST be returned to the island, either by their page or by another knight. This is a sacred duty among the Order. The journal is placed in the Hall of Deeds which records every deed done by a knight.
If a knight turns their back on the order they are branded as a “Black Thorn”. If a Knight of the Order encounters a Black Thorn holding a weapon it is the duty of the knight to kill the betrayer. Only a Grand Council of Three can brand a Knight a “Black Thorn”
