Jensa

Also known as: Lady Luck, the Moneylender, Mistress of Coins   A member of the pantheon and one of the true gods of Genesis, Jensa is the goddess of luck, prosperity, trade, and commerce. She's a dark-aligned goddess. Though they have no formal relation, she's often worshipped alongside Orona.   Jensa is thought to favor the bold, the fair, the charitable, and the generous. She's often considered to have a motherly demeanor towards her followers; pleasant, encouraging, but willing to be harsh in order to be fair. She's quick-witted and shrewd. Her attitude can shift from pleased to displeased rapidly, but she's receptive to the prayers and offerings of her followers more often than not.

Depictions

Depictions of Jensa often take on the classic attributes of a mother goddess, showing her as a middle-aged woman with wavy red hair and an ample figure. She's typically shown in layered, full-skirted dresses made from fine fabrics, and jewelry consisting of strings of coins made from gold, silver, and copper. She's always shown with a smiling face, and it's considered bad luck to depict her otherwise because it invites her less favorable moods.   Depictions of Jensa are often statues rather than paintings, and are generally crafted from precious materials or ornamented as such.

Followers

Jensa is a popular goddess among the everyday population, and has many followers. She's almost exclusively the deity chosen by merchants, moneylenders, and those involved in commerce, but is also favored by gamblers, the wealthy, and anyone whose chosen profession involves a fair bit of uncertainty and luck. Many households will honor her to some degree.   A dedicated follower of Jensa will most often become a priest or priestess serving within one of the goddess's temples, which are found within any town of any significant size. Her chosen aren't encouraged to travel, but rather to make themselves a productive part of their local community by using their natural leaning towards commerce; though donations to the temples are often very generous, her priesthood is expected to support the temple independently through hard work and clever management of money. The goddess grants few special powers to her followers, but priests and priestesses of Jensa seem to almost always have an uncanny knack for profit. It's not entirely clear whether this is a sign of divine favor, or just a natural inclination among those who are drawn to this particular deity.

Worship Practices and Holy Days

Prayers to Jensa are often small and spontaneous, offered before major decisions or business transactions, but the goddess also has one of the most formalized priesthoods and making offerings at her temples is a fairly common practice. When offering to the goddess, what one gives should be proportionate to one's means and display generosity; these offerings are then used by the temple to help the needy within the community, rather than benefitting the temple itself. It's also common practice to include Jensa within household shrines, where offerings to her are symbolic and complemented by acts of generosity and charity within a person's daily life. Followers of Jensa will often tattoo her emblem of the spinning coin on the soles of their feet or the palm of their dominant to symbolize the goddess's presence in all that they do. A string of threaded coins hung from a stall or in a shop window is a token of devotion to Jensa, and a promise that the merchant deals fairly.   Market Day (most commonly Sunday, but it can vary from community to community) is considered Jensa's favored day, and she's seen as having a presence in all festivals and celebrations. It's expected that when people gather for market, all involved should bring and share food for a communal celebration before the day's transactions begin.
