Orona

Also known as: Mother of Civilization, the Warbringer, the Spear and Stone, the Lawbringer   A member of the pantheon and one of the true gods of Genesis, Orona is the goddess of order, law, war, and civilization. She's a light-aligned goddess and the twin sister of the god Riev. Orona is often worshipped alongside Jensa for their mutual roles in a prosperous society, and is often closely associated with Eihel for their often-overlapping domains regarding law and justice.   Orona is not seen as a particularly kind goddess; she's stern and authoritative as befits her role as the creator and enforcer of the rules that govern civilizations. Nonetheless, she's widely honored for the stability and potential for growth that her reign brings. She's considered ever-vigilant, ready to take up her spear in defense of the laws she's set forth.

Depictions

Orona is shown as a tall, muscular dark-skinned woman with close-cropped hair, appearing approximately thirty years of age. She's always depicted in armor and carrying a spear in one hand, often with a hammer in the other hand or worn on her belt. Her posture is always warlike and alert, and she's often portrayed with an enormous stature, towering over battlefields or cities as a constant watchful presence.

Followers

Though she's honored but not widely worshipped by everyday people, Orona is a common choice of goddess for guardsmen, soldiers, city officials, and those otherwise involved in the processes of law. She's also popular among architects and builders.   As befits a goddess of order, Orona's priesthood is strictly organized and serves in her temples. Followers of Orona are expected to have weapons training, especially with her favored weapon the spear, and typically serve as a secondary force to a city's secular guard when it comes to helping enforce law and order within the general population. A dedicated follower of Orona radiates divine authority, making it hard for wrongdoers to stand against them; however, while they have a strong intuition for right and wrong in any given situation, they don't posses the supernatural ability to sense wrongdoing that Hounds of Eihel possess and as a result will most often fall back upon the written law to guide their actions.

Worship Practices and Holy Days

Worship of Orona is comparatively formal when viewed alongside many other gods of the pantheon; followers are expected to offer prayer in the morning and evening, with a shorter prayer at midday. They should also make offerings to the goddess at least once a week at one of the temples or shrines dedicated to her. During times of peace followers of Orona are expected to follow and uphold the law in their daily lives and encourage others to do the same; during times of war, they're not obligated to serve as soldiers but are expected to do all they can to help support the defense of their home.   In contradiction to the general practice of placing temples in a central location within a settlement, temples and shrines to Orona are always built in such a way that they integrate the walls of the city they're located in. Due to the goddess's law often overlapping with Eihel's justice, it's common practice for temples to honor them both jointly; though it's rare for an individual to honor both goddesses, offering made here are generally thought to appease both.   Orona's favored day is Monday, the beginning of the new week and the day when judgement is passed in matters involving the law. It's traditional for courts to operate on the steps of Orona's temple, to indicate fairness and the goddess's judgement being carried out. Her high holiday is Midsummer, where she's celebrated alongside her twin brother Riev.
