Black Dawn Crisis

The Black Dawn Crisis was an attempted mantling in 2254. A triumvirate attempted to use a soul vessel to mantle divinity as one combinatory entity before being stopped partway through their mantling by a small group of mercenaries. The names of the triumvirate are unrecorded except one who is only mentioned as "Mr Black" in one source. The names of the five mercenaries are all given in one source, but only three are mentioned in contexts other than the Black Dawn Crisis: Cirrus, a Tira Vellan Dynitian mage known for the Amenon Chydaiteton, Elisio Ribeiro, a Varaso count, and Nyia, another Tira Vellan Dynitian mage who later authored several works while at the University of Artheno, including a work giving the most detailed account of the attempted mantling itself.

Sources

There are four sources which are used to study the event: the notes of the mad mage Cirrus, the memoirs of the Varaso noble Elisio Ribeiro, a file kept by the Trofiriyan Royal Ministry on the event, and On Soul Vessels and their Applications in the Pursuit of Elevation by Nyja of Artheno. Each source has its own flaws and biases, especially the works of Cirrus, as they show very little lucidity, but they are most useful in understanding the metaphysical aspects of the event.
