Saurian is a language family of closely related lects spoken through much of central Aresra.
There are two major lects of Saurian: the Blackrock group and the Tropical group. These are best described as two languages with a high degree of one-way intelligibility from Tropical to Blackrock and marginal intelligibility from Blackrock to Tropical. The Blackrock group is spread over a smaller geographical area and experiences much more contact between varieties than the Tropical group. As such the Blackrock varieties are best described as accents while the Tropical varieties are viewed as a dialect continuum.
The grammar of the two groups is very similar and highly conservative. Both are highly synthetic languages with relatively free word order, a notably a complete lack of grammatical tense.
Tratian Creole
Owing to the large population of lizardfolk living in the Tratian islands, a Varaso-based creole has developed among the lizardfolk population there, featuring heavy phonological and vocabulary influences from older forms of Tropical Saurian, as well as vocabulary influences from Tratian.
