Feloran Mule

The Feloran mule is a breed of mule that is notable for being able to produce offspring. As such, Feloran mules have been bred from their own kind for thousands of years. Bred for the purpose of pulling vessels through the extensive canals of the Feloran Empire, today the mule is largely limited to hauling barges and heavy cargo for many of the Sarendian Trust's guilds. The original methodology for engineering such an animal has been lost at some point during the Feloran Empire's many crises and calamities, however arcane research by masters of lore and magic has indicated the use of magic.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Anatomically, Feloran mules are virtually identical to their infertile hybrid counterparts. They are quadrupedal, with hooves. Most resemble the size and stature of some draft horses. Feloran mules are generally brown and grey, although spotted patterns have been known to occur, and indeed the Livestock Breeder's Guild of the Sarendian Trust is known for breeding spotted Feloran mules. Like all mules, they are valued for their stamina and endurance compared to that of a horse, while being more docile and intelligent than donkeys.

Ecology and Habitats

As a domesticated work animal, the Feloran mule can be found in a wide variety of locales, and has no natural habitat. It is rare for one to be comfortable or effective in temperatures below -20ºC or above 40ºC. They are most commonly found along the secondary and tertiary canals along the Grand Feloran Canal, as well as the industrial canals of Èrintrel. They are still found, but less common, in the Dotharan Alliance, where they are used to pull ships along the Founder's Canal. Lastly, Sorenian rice barges use Feloran mules to haul their product to the Sovereignty's trade posts.
