Yuranan
Yuranan is an ancient proto-Feloran language with immense similarities to the High Feloran dialect. It has not been spoken for around 8,000 years, and it is believed to have evolved into High Feloran sometime after or during the time of the Getninan Cataclysm. The language was first identified as distinct from the High Feloran dialect by Dotharan scholars at the University of Melnor in 130 PE. At a subsequent academic forum, the scholars argued that Yuranan was distinct from Feloran due to the absence of vocabulary from the conquered Formen and Thàro.
History
Yuranan was spoken during the time of the Àntrepari by the early Felorans as they built the Sorenian and Lumoran civilisations in the forgotten era. It spread westward as these early Felorans migrated to what is now the Cliffs of Erintrel. During the cataclysm, the language's speakers became isolated, and several dialects likely emerged. The thousand-year transition from Yuranan to High Feloran is believed to have taken place during this time. For the entirety of the Feloran Empire's history, Yuranan was considered indistinguishable from the contemporary Feloran tongue due to a desire by the Imperial Court to create an unbroken lineage to the Royal Era.Writing System
Yuranan used Feloran Cuneiform in its written form. This system outlasted the language and continued to be used in early High Feloran but was replaced by Old Feloran Script, which used ink brushes instead of the shaped stylus in cuneiform.
Morphology
Yuranan had grammatical gender and its nouns had masculine and feminine forms. Nouns did not however, have plural or singular forms. It had no definite article ‘the’, or indefinite article ‘a’.
Vocabulary
Yuranan vocabulary consisted of many archaic forms of Feloran words. The absence of words from Formeni or Thàro origin was how University of Melnor scholars first questioned the language's distinction from High Feloran.
